Forums - Gaming - Lair patch impressions.

I will repeat what I've said since September.

Lair was a fun game that was a textbook example of taking a fun game and ruining it with bad design choices. The controls were never bad. That was a scapegoat for bad reviewers to ignore the hundreds of real flaws.

I also keep saying, if you have the patience and forgiveness of Ghandi and Jesus in some weird Hybrid, you'd probably also enjoy Lair. I just expect a good game, and got a very pretty high school project.

So, i got the patch too. You must know me by now as a big hater of Lair.

This patch just made me realize how controls were not the only broken thing.

So there i go to the level i never had the patience to finish, watching that same unskipable cutscene by the fifth time i guess, but still very gorgeous.

Then i am into action, controls are way way better this way. I get down and start tearing enemy troops.

Then in the middle of the damn thing a damn unskipable cutscene gets in my way... "Yeah, good job, Ron!" or something like that, with 30 troops left to kill...

Then they point out that i gotta take out some rhynos, so i follow the arrow that should point me to the objective. No matter how much i look i can't find these rhinos since the arrow will almost lead me to somewhere out of the action.

Then another cursed cutscene, "The asylian navy, we are done for!", there i go take out the damned ships, what remembered me how bad the lock-on is and how easy it makes killing at the same time, just lock on and spam fire, he will do the weirdest thing possible with your camera but at least will kill.

In the meantime, while i blast ships i get the damned cutscenes "take out teh rhynos", "oh sh*t warbeasts" and after thinking i got all the boats i go back to follow the arrow, that again just throws me far away from the real thing.

When i manage to find the warbeasts, i do the lockon and blast the people above it, with incredible ease, then i try to lock on on the legs and take it down.

After throwing three soldiers, i finally get to lock on the warbeast and take it down, and still the cutscenes complaining, do i have to do everything here?

Then, i can't believe, i found the rhynos, same problem of the warbeasts but i take them down, and the cutscenes keep complaining about ships i left and about how there are more rhynos somewhere.

Then take the damn thing off and next thing i know i am enjoying some TF2.

Only thing that will take me back are home trophies, so people can come into my house and see the dragons and say: Look, this dumbass bought Lair.

Yeah maybe i'm not touching it then...

The way you describe that Lair game. Its surprising you have not snapped the game disc in half or thrown it across the other side of the room.

@Flow Nah, he's not talking about Mission 5 (a mission I beat on the 2nd try). He's talking about a later mission, maybe 12 or 13, where the Asylians are invading and you've got to take out the dam. I admit I had trouble finding the objective at times due to a lazy arrow, but I still managed to beat that mission first try with a silver medal.

All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.

The game seriously is not that bad. I can see the harsh reviews for not having the analog controls but not so much anymore. You can in fact skip the cutscenes after you watch tem the 1st time, Simply press X.
