Forums - Sony - Kojima Disappointed With Metal Gear Solid 4

I think I have more respect for him because he said this than other developers who make a so-so or crappy game and be all like "This is the BEST GAME EVER!!!!! BUY IT!!!".

Also, if he thinks the gameplay is okay, then it should be impossible to critize it until it comes out because 'gameplay>graphis' o_0

Argh, I don't think he should have said anything, keep the momentum of this game rolling.

Contrast this with Itagaki: 'People will be discouraged from making games after they see Ninja Gaiden II'.

Apparently not all Eastern developers are humble Slorgnet.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

If anything he boosted the momentum by basically saying: "this game looks the best, nothing can beat it, it is the dream game... But I wish I could do better, this thing wont let me do any better!"

I mean can't you feel the hype!?

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

What a madman... His vision must have been one hell of a game...

I remember him saying in one interview back when MGS4 was first announced that he wanted to create a real world instead of a 'stage'. The example he gave was that of planting a small tree. If you kept watering it, it will keep growing or something like that. It seems that he hasn't been able to achieve that dream.

No, he said they're using the Cell to its full capacity.

Correct, he just implied that the limits of the Cell were much lower than he expected.

I don't know what he means when he describes that the PS3 was a dream machine in the beginning -- either that was his initial perception of it based off of the paper specs, or perhaps he was looking at the PS3's original specification, which included a Cell processor with two cores rather than one, which would have been much more well suited to gaming.

Well if he was having limitations with the PS3's cpu, I'm not sure this game will ever see a 360 port xD.

For gaming and general purpose computation, the 360's processor cores are significantly more powerful than the Cell.

I'm not technical expert but i've heard from many credible sources that the PS3 is far more capable than the 360 if the code is optimised to take advantage of the PS3's architecture . I think it's genearly accepted that the PS3 in first party situations > anything the 360 has to offer and the 360 is generaly easier to code for hence multiplats being superiror til recently.

Lets not do this again. They are pretty equal. PS3 better CPU and 360 better GPU. End result is pretty close. One thing though my PC buddy said you'll never see Cell in a gaming PC. Because it's not structured right.

is this real?

I really find it hard to imagine that Kojima would say this, even if he would think this way

it is real strange for a developer to talk like this about it's upcoming game
especially a game like MGS4

after the release of Pro Evo 2008
Konami developers also stated they were not satisfied and promised the 2009 version to be much better

but that was AFTER the release of the game

I just find it hard to believe he has said that less than 8 weeks before the launch

''Hadouken!''

So PS3 is maxed out on June 12. That was quick.

Kojima can never be satisfied with console hardware, this is why he needs to team with Crytek and create a game with graphics so mind blowing that no computer can run it until 2030. Now with all jokes aside, the early TGS footage of MGS4 did look amazing, but the current MGS4 footages isn't to far from it. The only thing that doesn't graphically look all that great is the blood. Either way, I'm pretty sure he's not necessarily "disappointed" in the graphics but the scope of the levels (which the first stage looks pretty amazing already).

As for him "maxing" out the cell to it's full potential... You can have your processors grinding at 100% but if there's shitty coding and a poor engine, 100% won't matter much. That's not to say Kojima Productions suck at coding and have a bad engine, but there's no way they've solved all the complexities of the Cell yet, if that were the case, MIT and IBM wouldn't have to research the damn thing for the PS3 anymore.
