square got ff x, x-2, xi, and xii all released last gen. however it might be another 2 years before we see ff13, so will 14 come this gen or next?

I think it will. Square doesn't want to invest all this money in it's graphical engines and then use them to make only one core Final Fantasy.

But they won't put out as many this generation due to the PS3's lifespan and userbase never even beginning to approach that of the PS2.

I believe yes, but I do not believe we'll see FF 15 this gen, which will mark the first time ever there were not exactly three main FF's in a console generation:

NES: 1-3
SNES: 4-6
PSOne: 7-9
PS2: 10-12
PS3 and others possibly?: 13-?

Sadly, the wii will get all the big games as it finishes winning this generation.

 I slightly agree. FF14 could go either way. There is the japanese audience that doesn't really care about FF for the graphics , but for the story and the gameplay. Then the western audience who care about the graphics. Now if it is a downgrade from FF13 people would start bitching, while it would sell better since the japanese audience is bigger on the wii. So it could go either way imo.
