Forums - General - Worst Fortune Ever

Just had some Chinese food and this is what my fortune was from the fortune cookie: Important events are in your future. This might be the vaguest and most generalized fortune I have ever read. Also doesn't everyone go through personally important events in their life by default?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Being outsourced to India instead of China :(

Well ... it's better than:
"really bad events are in your future."

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

I hate the ones that aren't even fortunes, it's just a random proverb, or a compliment.

That's a good question. Is that the real topic? The philosopher Spinoza posited a neutral viewpoint, the so called "sub specie eternitatis", which in some interpretations means that any event, viewed from far enough away, will cease to be either important or unimportant.

In any case, doesn't it depend on your viewpoint whether an event is important or not? There are a couple of religions that espouse the notion that nothing that goes on in this world is important (or even real). Some sects of Buddhism would say there is only one important event and most people never experience it.

It can be a social question, a philosophical question and a religious question. Your view of what is/was an important event will probably change throughout your life. Does it matter if another person thinks it's important or only if you think it's important? I would guess by your use of the phrase "personally important" that it only matters if you believe it's important. Or perhaps you meant that by default there are events that happen to each person that must be considered important. In either case it's certainly not clear.

Yes, there was a force in the universe that brought that specific fortune to you. It was meant to be.

Ooowww. My right brain just hurt while reading this thread.
