There is one thing I'm particularly unhappy with, and that's the increasing amount of surveillance that is going on. The government is getting too involved in everyday life. This can't go on for much longer though, we're a democratic nation and we can still vote to change these types of issues.
At the next elections, even if the Conservatives don't win (though they most likely will), Labour will be forced to make a lot of changes to what they are currently doing.

I really wish I shared your optimism! I think the Tories will scrap the ridiculous ID card scheme but Labour have brought in so many authoritarian and surveillance laws I really can't see them scrapping them all. We should've all said enough is enough last time but sadly the country voted Labour in for another term Bar any major hiccups the Tories should win the next election but our electoral system is so stacked in favour of Labour they'll have to get an enormous swing to get an outright majority. The problem is Labour really believe that what they're doing is right. They think they know best and therefore have no qualms about inflicting their authoritarian policies on us. If they keep power at the next election I can't see that changing because their philosophy inherently requires them to believe that they know best and what they are doing is in the country's interest. They treat those who disagree like naughty school children who don't know what's good for them.

I think it seems nice I guess. I barely know much about it. I might visit it someday. Could somebody educate me on what it's like there?

dude the weather is crazy over here, i mean snow in april??? what the hell?

In my opinion (and yes i live in england) i quite liked tony blair, no real reason why. but when it came to forign relations i think he was americas lap dog which really pissed me off. anyone remember that george michael video with cartoon tony blair and george bush??? but on the up side whenever those 2 were together tony blair always looked way smarter.

don't like gordon brown that much, but don't really know his politics. i also think we come up with some stupid laws, i mean congestion charging, what the hell. i also think gun crime and knife crime is stupidly high right now, and that our education system is failing and degrees are becoming more useless by the year along with A-levels and GCSE's

 I would say Bush's lap dog.  I think it was a combination of a moron (Bush) and a spineless tool (Blair) that caused a lot of problems for both countries.

People will love you here for having a British accent. Taking a trip here probably would be a good way to pickup members of the opposite sex regardless of who you are and how you look.

But is that really true? I'm ENglish and I though that was just a stupid thing they put in films.

 it is true. I know a girl from london who actually hides her accent and has taken on an american accent (which I'm sure is hard to do) because she was getting too many "ooo thats so sexy" comments.

And I see my friends going crazy over any guy with the accent, even if hes old and ugly. Its bizarre.

Where do you live again?

@CaptainPref
Apart from tea, everything you mentioned about the UK is a reason to leave.

OT: The UK is proper bollocks at the moment. House prices, taxes and the cost of living is high while wages are low. Where I live, the price of a half decent house is about £200k($400k), while the average wage is just £15k.

@ferret
It'll be sad to see more youth leaving the county, this whole place is going to end up full of fucking shrivs and holiday makers.

I live in the UK and i dont think it is that bad. i get a few Goths calling me a chav behind my back but thats up to them really, this country aint that bad there far more worse contries you could live in. I think the music is horrible tho so i just listen to dancehall reggae.
And yh i hate tea i can not stand it. And if that english accent think is true then America here i come lol. Funny thing about that is there was an american girl in my school and she sounded so sweet,
What's a chav?

@sc94597

A chav is a person who spends all day wearing track suit bottoms, listens so British rap, and usually hangs around on street corners. It's usually the sportier children that go on to be chavs, and people from lower income areas.

They are often associated with the stereotype of being vandals, rude, and violent.

 We have people like that in the U.S with some differences.

@sc
I think they may be called wiggers elsewhere.
