@Goodlife I'm 22 and a libertarian. I've never met another UK libertarian in person.

You've never met anyone who believes in freedom of liberties??!

Really?

 Anyway, it's an interesting theory, every man for himself and all that.  Best of luck for you, I suppose. I hope someone will look after you when you're down on your luck though.

America is great, if you've got money

Of course I have, I said I've never met another UK libertarian in person. Libertarianism is a clearly defined political philosophy.

People make their own luck and no one should be forced to look after me under threat of going to prison if they do not (the current situation in the UK). People should be free to donate to charities and look after one another as they see fit but it should never be forced on anyone.

You wanting to leave England makes we want to live there even more!

But seriosuly come to Canada, specifiaclly Ontario. Settle in Toronto then buy a big house fr 300 000 bucks in Brampton. Trsut me dude they are going up fast. houses everywhere. They are tearing down farms just north of me for bus terminals and houses.

The Greater Toronto Area is also a very multi cultural place. You have asian people black people, Indian people, and white people from all over europe.

The climate in the GTA is good. It gets cold in the winter but it gets hot but not Australia hot in the summer. The spring and fall are pretty cool also. Vancouver rains to damn much and its always cool there. But I guess thats how England is right?

Theres lots of job oppurtunities here also. You can open up your own buisness here and write things off like nothing.

You can go shooting for animals easily here in Canada. Get your gun license and go up north and start shooting those dear's.

Theres this point system thing for immigrants coming to Canada and you need to pass it to get legel status or something. I dont know what your education or job is so I cant tell you if you will pass or not.

But come to Canada its areally nice place to live.

 I'm not sure how to take that! But considering the rest of your post was spent telling me to come to Canada I guess it was meant positively :-s Yeah, I've looked at the points system and I'll qualify in a year or so. Hunting is something I really can't wait to be allowed to do

Dear prospective Canadian immigrants,

Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on choosing Canada as your new home. We will welcome you with open arms.

@Ferret
I have read your posts in this thread and must advise you that the province of Alberta would much better suit your desires. Out of all the provinces, it is the most right-leaning, it is the least taxed (thanks to oil), its citizens are more liberal when it comes to gun ownership.

British Columbia (Vancouver), while beautiful and having a very pleasant climate, is nearly the most leftist province (Quebec being the most leftist).

If you are into (legal) guns, the Toronto area is not really for you.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask them. Canada is the second largest country by area, so as you can imagine there are great differences from one province to another. Consider me an expert on Quebec, which you, Ferret would not like.

I though Alberta was conservative and similar to Texas? I am most definitely not a conservative. Conservatives like to impose their moral views on others, something I can't stand.

Well, if you're libertarian you'll definitely fit in better in NA than Europe. I'm from the US, and can't stand the direction we've taken recently toward bigger government. Judging by the political discourse this election season that's only going to continue.

Good luck up in Canada.

@Konnichiwa

No, I've always been a British citizen. I was born in the UAE while my parents were out there teaching for a few years but, being female, I've no right to Emirati citizenship. I left when I was 15 months old so I have no recollection of it and have never been back. All my family are English as far back as we can trace. Parts of my family tree go back to the 1600s.

I want to leave because I feel very very trapped here. Over the past year or so I've begun to think more and more like a North American. The European consciousness seems to be collectivist and quite socialistic even among people who wouldn't categorise themselves as socialists. High taxes, state intrusion in our lives, and the welfare state go largely unquestioned. Those who work hard have 40% of their income taken off them and handed out to other people. I'm an individualist and do not appreciate being forced into these social bonds. I give money to charity where I wish to help but resent having to hand over my money to fund things I disagree with. Our standard of living is falling because of this. Companies are relocating offshore because of the increasing corporate taxes and people cannot afford their fuel bills and rent because of all the money the govenment is taking off them.

The government are also regulating more and more aspects of our lives. They are currently discussing bringing in a smoking licence where you have to pay money and fill in a form to gain a government approved licence in order to buy tobacco. I cannot live in a country that believes that is acceptable. My philosophy revolves around the idea that government should be minimal and here purely to protect our life, liberty and property. In Europe the relationship has turned so that we have to justify our existence and activities to the state. That is anathema to me. The state should be justifying itself to us, not the other way round. I believe it has gone so far there is no chance of reversing it and the only way to regain my liberty is to get out.

You seem to be pretty Libertarian-minded. It seems as if America or Canada sound best for you. Remember that Canada is pretty leftist as well, much more so than America. They even go so far as to restrict radio and television personalities on the basis of their saying "unpopular" things. Still, it's a very nice country and has a lot of great things about it.

Remember one thing America has going for it:

President Clownshoe is out of office in 10 months. Whoever replaces him will surely do less stupid things. Hell, my dog would do less stupid things and she enjoys eating cat shit when I'm not paying attention.

Anyway, is it really that hard for a Brit to get into America? From the other Brits I know (most of which immigrated years ago), they all got through the immigration system quickly because, well, because they were British. Speaking the language and being British seems to make things easier.
