Forums - Gaming - Just asking, are "core" gamers complaining during PSX days when it sells?

Like the lack of third party support or the N64 will be BIG wih this <insert game here> scenario just as like what happening now?

Anyway just asking since this site was here even during the SNES PSX days

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

I was in my early teens when the PSX launched and it was exactly the console that me and my friends had been waiting for. It had much better 3rd party support than the competition, but I'm sure there were some Nintendo fans that insisted certain 1st party franchises would carry the N64 to victory. It was pretty obvious that wasn't gonna happen though. Not with games like Tekken, MGS, and FF7.

Not sure what you're saying in your second sentence. This site obviously wasn't around at the time.

The PSX was still a system for hardcore gamers so no, you did not see the same type of bitching about the PSX that you see about the Wii.

of course there were fanboys,
there always have been fanboys, and always will be,
but back then
there were significantly less internet gaming forums with vicious fanboys

so you noticed it a lot less
you would argue with schoolmates, not with people from all around the world
and we never said 'Sonydomination will begin with FFVII!! XD'' and stuff like that

cause I was also in my young teens back then,
and sales where no issue in my world at that time,
winning with GoldenEye and mastering FFVII were what did matter to us,
but for older gamers at that time it might have been an issue

but while I was even younger, we did have arguements about SEGA versus Nintendo though, but the PSX domination was so big, that there was no serious competition, at least not in Europe a year after it's launch ,so there was also a lot less to argue about..

and I didn't know this site was so old
are you sure?
so VG Chartz is older or about as old as GameFAQs (1995)?

''Hadouken!''

I hate the PS1 even more than the Wii right now. Unlike the Wii, the PS1 was able to destroy an entire generation of gaming. I really only played Mario 64 that generation, and other quality 64 games. I decided to stick with the SNES and Gameboy mostly, because that generation lacked quality outside of the 64. I will always remember the PS1 as the console that started all of this cool guy hype over gameplay BS that lead to consoles like the Wii and PS2.

''Hadouken!''

The PS1 defined gaming!

The the PS2 took its crown and killed everything else lol

Alot of people, I believe did complain, and were fusterated with Nintendo's total incompotence during the N64 generation. Nintendo had good momentum with the SNES being the best system ever, but totally squandered every single advantage they ever had, and because of their mistakes, is why I've (personally) never bought a Nintendo product since.

The N64 first party, and second party IPs were the best of the generation, IMO, even the PSX games weren't as good, on whole. There were indeed a few great PSX games, but again, I never felt they were as good.

Problem was, I got very fusterated with Nintendo's incompotence with getting the great 3rd party games on their system - Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and all of the rest. Nintendo really botched that generation worse than any others combined.

As for sales, and the hope that Nintendo bringing big game X onto the scene would help it out - I really didn't care. All I was praying for was more than 1 decent RPG on the N64, and that never happened as long as I cared for the N64. About 3 years in, I dropped my support for the console entirely, in favor of the PC.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I had a PS1 and a lot of games for it back then. I just didn't like it. the N64 was better.

err, seems you guys forgot price point.

I had both PSX and N64 however I had a bit more PSX games mainly due to the $49.99 over $70+ price of the cart games.

When it came to fun factor though, both were fun or had fun games - but yea the PSX didn't start shovel ware, it was there, it's just that it reinvigorated the graphic whore community, which are the loudest of gamers apparantly.

The effect of CGI XD. Consoles were for home gaming, now their home multimedia devices, who knows now if this is the direction it was supposed to go in.

If Nintendo & Sega had stayed dominant or Sony didn't drag their other markets into one market I wonder where gaming would be today.

BTW: The common misconception is that Nintendo monopolized gaming, truth is they secured it from crashing again, plus Sega was doing the same thing, within the boarders of the past, what they did ensured we had console gaming today.

But it's easier to blame the winner huh...

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
