Forums - Gaming - Analyst: GTA IV Can't Be Judged on Sales

Of course its gonna be judged on sales, investors dont give shit about the attach rate, they want money. If that means take-two have to put it on the system with highest user base to sell more, then thats what they have to do to keep investors happy.

i see this game selling more than that, for some reason i feel this game is gonna decide the next-gen console winner between PS3 and Xbox360

I don't think it'd be hard for GTAIV to sell ten mil by the end of the year.

By the end of the year, PS3 will be at least 20 mil, and XBOX 360 should be somewhere around that area.

So ten mil out of forty mil isn't that bad, a 25 percent attach rate. Very feasible.

Remember, GTA gets almost all of its sales from Europe and North America so system sales in Japan are pretty unimportant to GTA4's sales ...

Even if you assume that the PS3 and XBox 360 will have a combined total of 40 Million in North America and Europe, 10 Million copies of GTA sold represents 25% of the usebase of these systems; being that not everyone will be interested in this game, some people will rent it, others will buy it used, and some people who own a PS3 also own an XBox 360, this will be a difficult target to meet.

This isn't saying that GTA4 won't eventually pass 10 or 15 Million units sold, but with the limited timeframe it will be a challenge to make these sales.

I mean, it really won't be that hard.  This game is huge.  Think about how much Halo 3 sold on a system with a smaller userbase, coming out later in the year.  In eight months, this can easily reach 10 mil, or 25 percent.

lol, came out and straight up said, "NOPE"!

of yeah, I'll second that.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

The attach ratio helps to give evidence that a console is worth developing for.

@drudaddy
The fact that attach ratios are around 20-25% in the US for both 360 and PS3 gives evidence that the GTA franchise should no longer be exclusive.

I think MorgZ is the only one who really understood the significance of what was being said in the article.

This guy is mad. Attach rate? LOL. Sales matter. No sales = NO MONEY.

In my opinion, Call of Duty 4 is a better example because it will (certainly) hit 10 Million across both platforms but it (probably) won't get there until later in 2008 (or possibly until 2009) ...
