Forums - Gaming - $600 tax credit in may - How will it effect sales?

In total it is 1,500 Billion Euro. which makes it about 18,700 Euro per Capita

Concerning the trade deficit, I just read it actually INCREASED by 6% for the states just last month....

That's not terribly surprising. The dollar is in such fluctuation right now that everything is all whacked. Give it a year or so and it will settle down. By then, we should be exporting more goods because the dollar is bound to settle rather low when it does stabilize.

BTW, that German national debt is almost identical to American national debt.

It bugs me that I didn't make enough last year to receive one, especially considering I'm the prime demographic to spend this on useless junk, thus putting it right back into the economy, like intended.

I wanted to get a DS. ;_;

It pisses me off even more that I made to much. I don't get one either.

I hope people realize this is not free money, it's a credit on next years taxes. You will get 600 less in 2009. (for your 2008 taxes)

As for the healthcare issue in this thread. Mine is free with my job. We live in a classless system. You want what I have, go to school and work for it. It's available to everyone who applies themselves.

I didn't grow up rich, or with any advantages. I just worked hard to get where I am, and other then handicapped people, any american can achieve what I have achieved (millions have achieve more).

I tire of hearing what this country is supposed to do for you. This country has built a system that allows you to do for yourself. If you don't take advantage of it, there is no one to blame but yourself.

Spoken like a true capitalist. Amen, brotha.

BTW, since we're on the topic of politics and countries, anyone here enjoying the HBO show John Adams as much as myself?

Thanks! And yes, I am loving that show... one more episode to go! :)

Well, here its not much better. We are facing serious issues in retirement funding, as the current system will eventually collapse and we young ones will not get anything out of it - yet we have to pay a lot right now and the shithead politicians just raised the retirement amount again...

It's a pretty common problem in most western countries. It's just that, for some reason, people love to bash America for it. The same goes for national debt per capita.

no, that is a bit of a bigger problem in the states than here...especially with what Bush started. so that criticism is justified. Plus look at the trade deficit you guys have over there...staggering. At least we have a trade surplus.

The unfunded liabilities in Social Security (government pension plans, medicare/health care, etc.) can not be blamed on one leader in any country; Bush may have done things that made the situation worse but for nearly half a century most western countries have been increasing spending, and adding social programs without any plan for paying for them.

I was a bit down on the show after episode 3 but once it got into his vice presidency, it picked right back up.

Who doesn't love Thomas Jefferson? His character is bloody brilliant in that show.

With the cost of gas and food I wouldn't be too surprised if most people put it in the bank and use it for daily expenses.

This is a good point.  $600 isn't a lot of money -- not enough to affect the spending habits of most.  It will just go into the pot of monies along with my tax returns.

You are correct. Its all credit card payments for me. Stimulus package phails.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Sorry for being off topic:

I've been enjoying the show a good bit (on Canada's equivalent to HBO). Too bad that it doesn't have the (full frontal) nudity of other HBO series (mostly Rome). Of course, who wants to see Paul Giamatti nude especially when there is no hot chicks in the whole series.

I didn't realize this week's will be the last episode.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned those fucked up commercials where you can hire a lawyer to settle your tax debt for virtually nothing. That there is just fucked up. Saw one last week were someone claimed they owed $480,000 in taxes and payed $800. If the tax system is that fucked up it is no wonder we are $9.5 trillion in debt.

Sixty $10 hookers!

Six $100 hookers!

I can't decide wich is better, so I guess I'll just build my PS3 library up. I get $900, by the way.

They can also turn your debt into wealth with just the money you make right now.  It doesn't matter how much debt you have!

You can sometimes settle debts for less than you owe because it is better for your creditors to get 60% of your debt from you, then it is for them to sell your debt at 40% of its value.

This doesn't mean it's not bad for you to do so, and it doesn't mean you can rack up a bunch of debt and get away from it.  Consider it like declaring bankrupcy-lite -- you work with your creditors to restructure your debt rather than them selling your debt at a fraction of its value to a collections agency, who then pursues getting the money back from you.   It will crush you credit rating, and potentially cost you thousands of dollars in future car/house loans (since you'll get less favorable rates).

And, of course, there's the whole subprime mortgage fiasco where banks are working on restructuring loans so that people can afford them, even if the bank/investors take a loss doing so.  Banks can't simply take houses and dump them on the market at 90% of their value and see them get snapped up, because no one is buying houses right now.  So it is in their best interests to restructure loans for people to afford, take no profit or perhaps even a smaller loss then they'd otherwise take trying to foreclose then sell the house.

I can't decide wich is better, so I guess I'll just build my PS3 library up. I get $900, by the way.

If I had to spend my stimulus money on something instead of just putting it into short-term savings, I'd probably buy a cheap camera lens.  Then again, I don't currently want any cheap camera lenses.
