Forums - Gaming - $600 tax credit in may - How will it effect sales?

I saw somewhere theres going to be a $600 tax credit in the United States. I was wondering what your thoughts were as to how it will be spent?

 I think its going to be increases for the usual suspects, $300-1000 type purchases will be most effected. People who have been waiting to buy consoles will probably get one, or a 2nd console if they want one too.

 I think May will be a big month, but it will be reflected by the end of Aprils results in the U.S, so whatever happens then will be further magnified by the tax credit.

Tease.

It bugs me that I didn't make enough last year to receive one, especially considering I'm the prime demographic to spend this on useless junk, thus putting it right back into the economy, like intended.

I wanted to get a DS. ;_;

With the cost of gas and food I wouldn't be too surprised if most people put it in the bank and use it for daily expenses.

It will all go to paying off huge credit card debt, gas/energy, and food. Maybe a small quantity will be spent on extravagant things, but from what I've heard on the radio and just random people talking, not many will be buying luxury items with it.

Also, you will probably get taxed back that $600 in a couple years, so its more like a loan. Mine is going in the bank, and If I buy a house, then it'll be part of my down payment, but I have no other plans.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I know a few people at work that are buying PS3s or putting it towards HDTVs. It certainly can't hurt.

I know a lot of people putting it towards a few big nights out or a family vacation.

it won't hurt, but don't expect it to boost video games any significant amount.

Now, if kids could get the rebate money from their parents, it would be a different story. For example, my brother is a dependent of my parents, and I'm sure he would blow some of the money.

As someone paying well over 2,000 USD each month only in Income Tax (excluding social security, pension funds, health care et al) I have to officially say: I hate all of you!!!!

Based on my family size, I should get about $2100. It will go to credit cards.
