Forums - Gaming - Has GTA IV sacrificed fun for realism?

This follow link gives an interesting list of 12 reasons GTA IV may disappoint fans.  Several of them are deal breakers for me, but I'm the type of player that never played though the mission, just screwed around, getting into trouble, avoiding police as long as possible and using cheats to get planes and stuff.   For those type of players it looks like GTA IV could be somewhat of a disappointment.

However, to be fair, the first reason I'm not buying it is lack of a HD console but  I had considered getting a 360 for this game (and a couple others).

Get the 360. The game is already receiving 10 out of 10 scores.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Get a PS3

this way even if GTA is not all that MGS and GT are.

Personally, I miss the hilarity and tongue-in-cheek humor of GTA III. I think the darker twist the games have taken is a move for the worse.

Most of the reasons given are ambiguous at best. They give a reason and then tell you what they just said isn't true. Hmm.

Get a 360 if you care about GTA4.

There will ALWAYS be someone who will complain or not like something regardless of what it is.

Thank-you!  I agree.

@Starcraft - Why?  This version of GTA doesn't sound like it'll have any of the fun elements of GTAIII series.  I really enjoyed taking a plane or tank and screwing around blowing the crap out of stuff for no reason.   I don't want to do missions.  I never enjoyed the missions much, regardless how well their done.  The most I'd do is the ambulance/taxi/cop missions which I doubt GTA IV offers either.

Same goes for MGS4 on the PS3 - no interest in it or a realistic racer like GT at all.   Rather play Burnout or MarioKart.

If you're looking for a sandbox game to just screw around in, would LBP interest you?

Possibly.  But from the videos I've seen that looks to be a 2.5d side scroller, not a sandbox game.  Am I wrong about that.

Gamerace, have you played Crackdown? That sounds like it might be up your alley.
