well captainpreferences started a threat what do people think of canadians so i started this thread...

personally i think america is great some states such as new york have really friendly people compared to toronto while others such as Texas i feel has racist attitude towards people of colour all in all great country...but due to the high levels of violence and lack of gun control i would much prefer to live in Toronto...

what do other people think

Most people in Texas are fine. Only some insane people who live out in the countryside are slightly racist.

I have no clue why someone would think New Yorkers are friendly...if you want to meet friendly people, Texas actually is a good place to go for that.

I also agree with Gray Acumen's sentiment.

I would agree with epsilon72. The southern states are quite friendly, though there are some lunatics around. Of course loonies are everywhere these days... Generally smaller towns = bigger friendliness.

oh and i'll add this, since you are such a large country, you got a lot of variation which is kool. each state seems kinda different. and on that note your public transport system sucks as well, you have to own a car if you wanna live anywhere in america, except cities with underground stations

On a real note. There are a lot worse places to live.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

I think this is one thing Europeans have trouble understanding about America. What is the size of the continental US? Roughly equivalent to western Europe? Just as Euros think Spaniards are much different from Germans, New Yorkers are vastly different when compared to Californians. We have one country and the same language (which can be debated at times), but other than that, the people live differently, think differently, and act differently.

As for public transport, it's hard to do here in the US. There are too many wide-open gaps in country and far too few people in the country to make it viable most of the time, excepting certain areas such as the north eastern seaboard.

I would like to say that the OVERALL AMERICAN population voted for Al Gore and Kerry (though Kerry is kins of a douche too he is preferable to Bush). The politicians voted for Bush. Unfortunatley our system is a bit old. I can understand why it was implemented in the 18th century. But now its just unfair.

I love my country (though my state sucks), and I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else, The fact is that many people all over the world stereotype America, and quite frankly dislike AMericans no matter what. I watched a special on outside opinions of Americans, and they are all quite negative, which is unfair and quite frankly untrue. I'll look for that article because it may be of some interest to the foreigners who have all cast negative opinions of Americans on this forum.

i don't think theres anything wrong with america to be honest. at the moment do alot of american histroy so i can say this... everyone hates the top dog. its no secret that america's the most powerful country in the world and has huge politcal sway in almost every country. its just one of those things, people love to hate america. to be honest i just think most people hate the america government rather then its people, due to way it handles forign affairs. and to be honest i think everyone will dislike america until theres another superpower emerges (most probably china).

and ye the way you vote, winning states which has a certain number of seats (or votes, however u wanna call it) is wierd. oh and i honestly think the Gore v. Bush election was fixed, thanx to george bush's brother! lol... well thats just my opinion, i qite enjoy reading into conspiracy theories!

'Certain' americans are really nice people, very polite and all... but there are other 'certain' americans that aren't as nice, and I kinda don't like those

^ i agree

i hate when americans let their patriotism go to their heads.

theres otehr countries in teh world you know

I'm really not a fan of the American government. Americans I don't mind so much. Though they don't quite seem to get sarcasm.

Everyone finds it amusing when Americans call themselves the land of the free.
