Forums - Gaming - Which Game do you believe will have the Best Graphics for 2008?

I have a list of a few names here that I believe could have the best graphics of the year. Feel free to type in the game that you feel will get this much acclaimed title for 2008. By no means will that mean the best graphics game will be Game of the year.

Here is my list as follows:

1. Kill Zone 2

2. MGS 4

3. Gears of War 2

4. Resistance 2

5. Other

BTW my pick is Kill Zone 2. But it will be a close call. Games released later in the year tend to improve upon a game released 6 months earlier in the year.

Fable 2 will compete, especially in terms of the environments. Banjo Kazooie and in my opinion SSBB will both compete due to the brilliant art direction of the latter and what I anticipate will be the brilliant art direction of the former. What I'm worried about is the fact that at least one franchise on your list has a history of severely dodgy gameplay, which is far worse than poor graphics.

Technically I would imagine MGS4, RFoM2 or Gears 2 will have the best, but artistically it would be Okami, it may be old but it still looks stunning.

Yes, I forgot about Okami Wii. Put that in under a possible art-direction title-taker as well.

From a technical standpoint, Killzone 2 by far.

I think GeoW 2 might look the pretiest in terms of graphic/realistic detail. However, I think that it will not have nearly the action on screen at a given time as Resistance 2 or Killzone and that it will also have a much shorter campaign and less in-depth gameplay as at least one of the PS3 exclusives.

I think Killzone is going to follow in CoD4 footsteps, except a little better. I think some things will look great, however other things like wall textures, the ground, etc. will be low res. and look awful. Of course we will have fanboys posting pictures of a wall going, "WTF? Killzone sucks?!" as well as fanboys going "WTF? GeoW 2 was like 4 hours long and only has 16 players online, Resistance 2 has like 400% more". So same old sh1t.

If I go by available proof then I'd say the following (in no particular order) should all be very good looking:

RFOM2 (based on the leap from RFOM to R&C and my trust in Insomniac when they say there is as big a jump from R&C to RFOM2)

GoW2 (based on how good GoW looked and statements from the normally dependable Epic and how good UT3 looked)

MGS4 (based on how good previous instalments have looked plus the available extended gameplay videos)

Fallout 3 (I still think that Oblivion looks great an an open world way and I expect this to show a leap in graphics from Oblivion)

I should say that I do expect Fable 2 and KZ2 to look good too but there is less evidence right now for exactly how good. Also, while I prefer artistic look (i.e. I still think ICO and Shadow look stunning as does Okami) I'm trying to judge on pure graphical horsepower.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I believe that we won't know until the end of 2008.

While I think (Hope) MGS4 will be the overall best game of 2008, I think Gears of War 2 will have the best graphics of 2008. Really though, graphics have reached a point where even the best looking game possible won't be light years ahead of the competition. Gameplay and art direction will be much more important in 2009.

can't believe i forgot and nobody else has said this one: LittleBigPlanet. Its a different artistic style, but graphically very impressive.
