Forums - PC - Vista SP1 Now Released

Have had Vista SP1 for a while now and it's all been fine for me.

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

Vista SP1 has been available for about a month now on microsoft.com; it is only now on WU.

XP SP3 is also due out soon, with performance improvements that will widen the gap between XP and Vista even further.

I got it from windows update a few weeks ago...

AD1888 Sound On-board driver for Windows 2k/XP apparently.  Works perfectly fine for me under Vista though.

I believe it downloaded on my PC a couple of weeks or days ago. I can't remember.

Does it say Vista SP1 in the update list?

I think (according to Google) that the problem lies with my drivers.

Apparantly, Vista SP1 doesn't work with AC'97 drivers, it also doesn't work with Intel display drivers, and some other pieces of hardware which were previously supported by Vista.

My question is, what is the likeliness of Microsoft, or Realtek doing anything to fix this?

Oh, and are there any alternative drivers that I am able to use.

What is the point of Vista? The thing is just pure resource consumption.

You see, Microsoft will try to convince you that IT is an innovative industry, where the cost and speed of home computers just goes up and up. But actually, every time the specs go up, they give you a new operating system, slowing down your entire performance. If they had Windows Movie Maker for Windows 2000, I would still be using that shit. Damn, it is fast.

Name one noticeable improvement over XP.
