Forums - Sony - Sony Products

I really want to introduce myself by getting a discussion going on Sony and their products. Sony makes a wide variety of products that work well. However, the wide variety of products hinders their ability to specialize in a certain area of products. Don't take this the wrong way, I am a fan of Sony, I just feel they can do better. The category I feel Sony really needs to improve in is their gaming products. In particular, the PS3. First of all, Sony really didn't come up with new ideas, however they did introduce Blu-Ray to the gaming community, which is not really necessary because all Blu-Ray is is a recording system (VHS/DVD) that can record up to 40 GB and can record in high-def. They used the same controller for the last two generations which can have its own ups and downs. I enjoy the free online play, unlike xbox LIVE, which is $50 a year. Sony makes many great alarm clocks (which I've thrown at my wall before, and my clock still works fine. I HATE THE MORNINGS!!! AAH!) But I have several problems with overheating on my PS3, which dissapoints me as a huge Sony fan. It's my belief that Sony should start specializing on certain products to maximize quality. I also wish they would focus more on games these days (PS1, PS2), rather than the multimedia they focus on these days. If they focus on their gaming platforms, they would probably outsell the competion.

I have played my PS3 even up to 10 hours straight and the unit was still not hot (the air was just a bit warm)

maybe you are not giving your PS3 enough room ,,or one of your fans could be faulty and needs to be replaced

1. its 50GBs

2. stand the console up

3. they have been, did you not see last E3?

4. Thats the name of the game, even the Wii supports some form of multimedia functionality.

It must be the fans, because I have it set out so that nothing blocks the cooling fans.

It's easy to test it,,,Just hold your hands at 3 locations which fans are,,,2 are behind and close to each other and one is at the side,,,so warm air should be coming out of the three at the same speed,,,if it's not then your fan is faulty and has to be replaced.

No
Sony's Playstation 3 hardware is fine
the design is nice, it's very powerfull, makes little noise and has BR
the controllers and related product are also of high quality

you can't say Sony isn't a good consumer electronics hardware maker
they are one the best

@SSJ12 Yeah but the Wii doesn't focus on multimedia firsthand. Sure it has the News, Internet, and all of those other channels to bring in the casual audience, but both Nintendo and Microsoft focus primarily on games, whether the games based at the hardcore or casual. All you have to do is look at PS3 ads, they shove blu-ray down your throats. I wish I could see more PS2 style ads, it promoted a better image.

the only company that comes close in this wide range of electronic product but falls short is Samsung,,,

So sony is one of the best consumer electronic products,,,,

Ive had lots of sony items for the past 15 years and I have never contacted sony's customer service,,,that says something about their company ,,not to mention their talented engineers

look at the PSP
besides the low 3 hour battery life
it a very nice piece of hardware

the huge thing they lift off is the cooling system complete with heatpipes, a huge heatsink, and a huge fan.

theres only one fan. its one big fan. and the speed of the air coming out as described by the qouted user is no way to judge the condition of the consoles cooling system.
