Forums - Sony - The PS3 Error 80010514 rate is 2% to 4%

Man, this thing has been completely blown of proportion really quickly. Nobody had even heard of this thing until two days ago and now people are comparing it to the RROD, which people have known about for at least an entire year, if not two.

Well you can't blame Xbox sites like teamxbox and eurogamer for trying. Xbox fans thought the new model 360s would finally fix the fundemental design flaw that causes the and they were trying to convince people of the fact when an explosion of RRoD articles came out over the past month.

And so we have this latest campaign.

It was a bit better than the their old juvinille attempts over the past year of sitting around in console forums making up fake 'my PS3 died stories' but with the PS3 being one of, if not, the most reliable consoles ever built all of these attempts by Xbox fans and Xbox slanted media sites are going to fall on their face like this latest attempt did.

I haven't seen a single example of 360's sold in the holidays or this year breaking down.

Explosion of Rrod articles my foot.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

mgs4 will sell 2.4m week 1

japan:500k

others: 1m

NA:900k

AAA (90%+) games (metacritic):

nintendo:65

Xbox: 42

playstation: 98

Now a PS3 specific virus - THAT would be priceless - especially if it "destroyed" the hardware somehow :)
(MS funding dev?)

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Game Assessment website

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

i don't get how a virus for any console would work.

By your logic, the PS3 failure rate is 2-4% for the HDD issues, IN ADDITION TOO the error code which has nothing to do with hardware.

"Despite the problem being unrelated to the hardware, your system will apparently still need replacing if the error occurs."

hahaha. Ok, how in the world can it get an error, and it have NOTHING to do with hardware? That might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

I guess if you are updating your firmware, and the power goes out or something, it could cause the update to fail, but that's not a build issue with the PS3. It's like saying it's ASUS's fault if you lose power while your flashing the BIOS.

But thanks for coming to the defense of the PS3 once again. According to starcraft, there are no hardware issues with respect to that error.

Another one who thinks the PS3 is bullet proof! :)

Lol, I suppose you're one of those Xbox fanboys at work? Please provide a source for this "virus", and learn how to type correctly.

There's this thing I have heard of..... It's used with most technology.... Damn what was it called... Oh yes of course, SOFTWARE! Yes that's it, there's this stuff called Software, it doesn't always work how its supposed to... There's this software called Microsoft Windows Vista, doesnt always work, regardless of the hardware its running on.
