I've been through about 4 Ps2's since launch.

Still not as bad as PS1, I went through litteraly 7 of them, my friend had so many break down he had a box full of about 15 broken PS1's.

I was able to make about 4 working PS1's from them.

Anyways, yeah, I wish I would have known about the laser thing earlier, my PS2 would always stop reading dual layer dvd and blue discs.

ps3 fixed it for me.

well, the information has been available since 2003 and putting "disk read error ps2" in a google search brings up the ars technica instructions:

Me too, but that was after I used this a few times to get years of enjoyment out of my PS2 after it started getting these. The point is that DRE's have a home remedy.

reading this thread makes me think the PS2 user base is more like 60M than 120M... (I myself used 2 PS2.... cause a friend forced a US plug into a French 240V outlet....thanks).

the only thing when i tried disk cleaning it played every game except the two god of war games.

Psrock, those are both dual-layer.

Try Xenosaga (also dual-layer), see if it reads that, if it doesn't then yours is doing the same thing mine did.

sorry, i gave my ps2 away to my enemies already. i am a ps3 owner now.

DRE aside, I wouldn't be surpprised if sony dumped some PS2s in a Boston river to get that number.

I don't understand who keeps buying that console still...just save money for an extra 2 weeks and buy an xbox arcade or a wii. or a month more and buy a ps3...
