Forums - Gaming - Harmonix are going to screw the europeans

Seriously they are gonna charge 240 Euro for the package

for you Americans... that's nearly 380 dollars.

Their excuse to ask such a ridiculous price are so called high shipping costs.

Kinda weird when I can import it for half the price they are going to ask for it.

those who find it as ridiculous as me should sign the petition that has come online at http://www.e-racoon.cuci.nl/brb/index.php

There's another thread about this already.

Already discussed in numerous threads, from what i know about the PAL region you have a large VAT tax added to your products. Another difference is the tax in PAL is included in the price of the product meaning when you go to the store and it says 299 euro then that is what you pay. In US the tax is not included but rather tacked on to the final price at the register.

Mil. Sellers:

Wii:      25 titles       101.4 mil total    avg 4 mil per title

PS3:     14 titles      28.6 mil total    avg ~2 mil per title

360:     41 titles      89.8 mil total   avg  >2 mil per title

Sorry about that then since I didn't find them... my bad.

anyways yes tax is added here in europe but generally nearly the same percentage as in the US. OK the dollar is weak atm but we are talking about an extra 120% secondly how come I (as a customer) can import it for half the price. heck even if custom add costs to it would be alot cheaper.

In other words... there is no way Harmonix can justify the price not one bit. Normally they just use the US price for Europe too (yeah still getting screwed) even that's not near the case there.

@Hakker_nl - The VAT is NOT nearly the same percentage in Europe as the US. Here in the UK VAT is 17.5%, according to Wikipedia (article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States) the taxes in most states are much, much lower (a lot of states have 3-6% VAT).

Let's also not forget the higher import taxes for the EU, and the higher living costs/wages. Or the high overheads that employers have to pay in the EU to employ people.

Just Import it then so you don't spend so much.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned much is the *possibility* (I personally doubt that this is the case), but the possibility that the European rights holders are asking more to license songs. I think that thats not the case, but it might be.

The majority of the right holders would be the same as the ones in the US, and other countries. What's more, one would assume that these would be paid for by the sale of the game, development fees may have already been paid off by the US sales.

The more you hear about Harmonix and Rock Band, the less there is to like.
I was in a US Best Buy and Gamestop yesterday and you could have built forts with all the Rock Band boxes sitting in the aisles.
