He didn't really jump, it's just the recoil from the impact when his left knee hit the floor.


Yeah, it looks like his leg tried to bend in the wrong direction, so it caused him to roll over.


Ok, we've officially reached the height of nerdness, but I just tried it as well and it's completely messed up. As music pointed out, the game was a long way from done when this came out, but lets not praise this GIF as the epitomy of gaming just yet.

But you gotta admit, the guy crawling on the ground clutching his chest is damn impressive. :P

Lol, it is indeed.  But more for the expansion of the pool of blood which is well-timed and accurate.  The chest-cluthing has been done before.

You know, when you fall down you go straight to the ground.
Try hitting one of your knees like your kneeling on the ground mid way then continue falling down.
The disruption in the motion when your knee hits the ground is accurately shown in that gif.
So they actually have me wowed with the ragdoll physics. ^_^

 


Oh.  It seemed to me like his left leg was going right, but his upper body was going left, which caused his leg to then pop back up and switch directions, causing the weird jump of sorts.

ANd here's more awesome ragdoll physics. :D

 

 


Why is that one guy all curvy and not falling down? The one getting all the headshots. =l Yeah it does look pretty cool.

 Well, the animations are supposed to be somewhat exaggerated.  I guess that one was just a bit too exaggerated. :P

I'm sure they're still tweaking things like that though. ^^
