That mock-up is based upon report from MTV (via Gizmodo):

Some of the other items may just rumor. And so may this be. But it would not be the first time that Microsoft has tried to "import" the technology of others.
And the arguments do ring true.

I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |
Also, this controller has the same amount of buttons as the Wii-mote. So there goes that argument.

Yeah but that report from MTV says this:
"Here's what MTV news knows courtesy of their exclusive source, who sketched out what it looks like above."
That seems quite a bit suspect. The only known picture was not a patent picture but some drawing an anonymous source drew for MTV. Like everyone has been saying, it's a complete rumor for now.

At least in the mockup, the button placement doesn't suck as much ass as it does on the WiiMote.
As much as I love the Wii and the WiiMote, the industrial design of the thing is pretty terrible. It was made to do too much in too many configurations. Nearly dislocating your f***ing thumb just to hit the "2" button is ridiculous. Unfortunately, given the nature of modern games, many require use of every button on the WiiMote, which really brings out the flaws in the controller.
Footnote: Before I get blasted for saying anything negative about the Holy Grail that is Nintendo, I hate pretty much every controller ever made except for the 360. That one only mildly annoys me. If you want me to get really negative, just bring up the Dreamcast controller and its carpal tunnel-inducing wrist angles. Stupid piece of shit.

Yeah ... i think it's a good read and you have really good arguments .... but you're basing solely on a rumor ... and a photoshop mockery, other than that i find your analysis really good. :)

I actually think the Wii-motes controls havn't been used properly except by Nintendo and a few third party developers. Games like Bully, i prefer to use a controller over the Wii-mote because it isn't used properly except for a few actions and mini-games. The last game i brought for my Wii was No More Heroes and although that game is awesome, i was expecting that a swing would equate to a sword swing but it doesn't except for a finishing move and some grappling moves which i can live with.
Also i don't think many gamers want to play games like Call of Duty and Gears of War with a Wii style remote controller, i certainly don't, it seems people have just gotton used to using a controller over a keyboard and mouse set up.
But i think Microsoft does get it, as they can encourage developers of Wii games to port those games onto the 360 and the graphical capabilities of the Xbox 360 could really enhance the experience to be had of such titles. Apparently Rare is also working on the Microsoft remote which is also quite promising as a new Viva Pinata game incorperating a remote so you can actually wack the pinata would be awesome but unless they can duplicate something like Wii-sports and create a bunch of games that use it well, then it will be a waste of money and time.

I never buy peripherals but if Rare released a game that allowed me to physically swing at those stupid pinatas, I would pony up $60 to do so.

They're all good points if the rumour is indeed true. MS is just copying the Wiimotes and making it into a cheap gimmick...
