Forums - Gaming - Atlus tries, fails to take down Patreon for PS3 emulator via DMCA. Could Persona 5 be heading to PC?

The most interesting thing is this:

"The company appears to have been only partially successful; in a statement posted today on Reddit, a representative of the RPCS3 dev team claims that on Saturday Patreon (but not the dev team) received notice that Atlus had filed a DMCA takedown against the RPCS3 Patreon page."

"Notably, Patreon reportedly pushed back, stating that they believed the emulation group's work fell under fair use and that the emulator itself did not infringe on any of Atlus' copyrights."

So the DMCA did not even reach the Dev teams but instead, Altus tried to go above them and try to get Patreon to take down the RPCS3 Patreon thing instead. But the website decided to push back on Altus instead of just complying with the DMCA. The dev team did end up removing any Persona 5 related content however but apart from that, it is interesting how the site was even defending emulation and ended up being successful.

Why can it come to PC but not Switch???

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Lol, they can't shut down emulators. They can shut down isos if everything lines up in the right places but that's it.

Yeah Atlus has pretty much done no damage at all as fans will show the game running on PC using RPCS3 just like how it is Cemu (I believe this is why Nintendo wasnt able to go after Cemu in the same way since the fans do the marketing for Exzap).

Plus like one of the RPCS3 devs said in the statement "Whatever happened, we ask everyone to be nice. RPCS3 as a project and the Patreon itself are safe. And whatever people may wish, there's no way to stop any playable game from being executed on the emulator. Blacklisting the game? RPCS3 is open-source, any attempt would easily be reversed. Attempting to take down the project? At the time of this post, this and many other games were already playable to their full extent, and again, RPCS3 is and will always be an open-source project."

The whole project is open source.

Yea but I don't even think the open source part matters. We have the CEMU guys doing closed source and correct me if I am wrong but they are also on Patreon and the havn't been taken down either.

Wow that reddit thread is really bad, people are losing their minds over nothing. Anyways, hopefully Atlus takes note, the demand on PC is certainly there!

All Atlus ended up doing was triggering the Streisand Effect. Nice job, Atlus.

It's there, people have been clamouring for Atlus games on PC for years. They claim to be "listening", but It comes off as nothing mroe than PR speak. I've heard it so many times, where a pub will say "we're listening", and then say nothing for months or even years on end.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Yeah, that's true. Still I want to be optimistic since we've been getting a lot of JRPGs recently and maybe SEGA will push for a port to be made. We'll see.

Atlus, most people who are willing to emulate are also willing to buy it if you port it.

Take the plunge.

Now to mention my experience. I enjoyed very much Atlus titles in the PS2 era. Shin Megami Tensei, Persona 3 and 4. I don't know if is me but ,Do I feel this game async for this gen? Or maybe Im getting old? Ignoring some stuttering and loading times, I just feel that lost its punch from early releases. I dont think this game is meant to the PS4 and the same goes for Disgaea 5 just to mention the ones that I noticed. If like I mention before, these games and others are just put to hold like last guardian...this was to be expected. Either way the result is bad for both players and devs alike. I can't believe Sony just had released Everybody's golf, a gamethat evidently seems meant to be released at launch of PS4 but by some reason was delayed. Library of this console is poor compared to PS3 just to begin with. I'll bet if this Persona would be released in the PS3 era, Atlus would be fighting against a emulator that only few people can enjoyed and overlook at the issues that all emus have: some stuttering and loading times. And surely I would bought it right away at that time, but now ,right now sadly I just see 2 thing: Too little and too late. This gen is a disaster for all platforms.Looks like console gaming is dead ,at least for me.
