Okay, enough man love. I'm not going to mention how much I like Cake.
And not the kind from GLaDOS.

Ok, anyone who likes Cake and TMBG is getting a friend invite from me.
So, what I really would like to see if is the OT will give them a shot. Go have a listen and let us know what you think, after giving them a chance for a while, of course

Cake always reminded me of Weezer and Beck's bastard child. Catchy tunes, quirky lyrics, very strange attitude.

Add to that creative as hell tunes, *$ the "man" attitude, Activist at heart, etc etc etc. You know what I mean.
You can't go wrong with Van Halen. No I don't mean Van Hagar. I'm not saying it's bad but David Lee Roth is by far the more superior front man.

I love Cake's The Distance.
I like both Cake and TMBG, but I don't listen to them very often.
The only CDs I'll really spend money on are usually in the power metal, symphonic metal, and melodic death metal genres. And some Viking metal as well, though the Viking metal I'll get usually leans on the side of melodeath (melodic death metal).
@OP: Most of the stuff I really like is metal (like the Iron Maiden video I posted earlier), but you probably won't get into that (though I'd hope you'd love it :P ), so I'll post some bands from my second love, classic rock.
Check out all of these:
Boston (particularly More than a Feeling and Foreplay/Long Time)
Styx (Come Sail Away is my favorite)
Journey (especially Don't Stop Believing and Any Way You Want It)
Van Halen (check out Running With the Devil, Jump, Why Can't This Be Love)
Black Sabbath (Ironman, Paranoid, and War Pigs are the usual favorites)
Ozzy Osbourne (Flying High Again, Crazy Train, and Bark at the Moon. And yes, this guy is technically metal, but if you like the above, you should like him.)
