It's still not out? How hard is it to turn a first person game into VR?

That depends very much in how the game was made. For skyrim the first challenge is to get it run at a locked 60 fps, not easy with an openworld game when you have to render 2 x 110 degree fov views at 60 fps without going over budget.
Next many games still use 2D assets especially for transparant effects which akwardly stand out in VR.
Then you have check the scale of everything, what looks good on a screen might make you feel like a dwarf or a giant in VR.
Make sure tables etc have textures at the bottom in case the player ducks down and looks underneath.
Same for looking behind things you can't normally see.
Make sure npcs actually look at/follow the vr player's head.
And the big thing, movement needs to not bounce of, bump into, intersect any geometry etc.
Also prevent players from sticking their head through walls and doors, shooting through walls/doors by sticking your arms through.
And test all that for a giant game like Skyrim.
