Forums - Sony - Took the plunge....

I hear you on Oblivion, I played teh hell out of Morrowind and if I did ppurchase teh game I would be getting it for my PC because it will cost less.

@eagleeys I have Bioshock for my PC, Mass Effect comes out next month, Halo 3 doesn't interest me in the slightest, nor do any of the other games you mentioned. Sony will always have more PS3 only exclusives simply because they have more developers that only make games for them AND they aren't trying to take any of the PC gaming market like Microsoft is with their "Games for Windows" campaign.

+1 on Bioshock and Mass Effect.  On the other hand, I don't think Team ICO's latest project or MGS4 will ever go to the PC.

@eagleeyes I didn't even consider Microsoft as an option because
a) It doesn't have Blu-ray
b) You have to pay for every god damn thing you do online.
c) I already have an HD capable PC and if I wanted to download movies I have twice the hard-drive space (Plus endless expansion) of a 360 and I am not cornholed into buying it from the Live marketplace (Read: I can get movies cheaper).
d) IMHO all you need this gen to play every game that comes out that is worth and watch every movie that comes out in HD. All you need is a Wii a PS3 and a kick ass PC.

I can easily turn this around the other way

I didnt even consider Sony as an option because

a) Blu-Rays cost £20 each in the UK, and I still have a DVD collection, upscale is just fine and will be fine for years to come. Movies that come out now will still come out in DVD for years to come.

b) At the time of writing, I have to pay £110 more for a PS3 bundle than a 360 bundle and a further £25 for an extra controller, that easily covers 3 years Xbox Live and a wireless dongle.

c) I also already have an HD capable PC and have 2TB in hard-drive space. I am not cornholed into buying a £20 Blu-Ray everytime I want to watch a movie, I pay £3 for a rental of a HD movie which I will only want to watch once anyway. I can always buy the DVD if I really wanted it in my collection.

d) IMHO the only way you can play every game worth playing now (out since 2007) is if you own a 360 and Wii. If I didnt I wouldnt have played Gears, Bioshock, Portal, Lost Odyssey, Halo 3, Mass Effect all on launch day. If I had a PS3, the most I would have played is Resistance, Uncharted, NG Sigma maybe a bit of Warhawk but thats it. Let me not even get started with other multiplayer multiplatform games, just look at VGChartz software sales for your evidence.

e) $20-$30 for GTA4:Ep1. Yea thats way expensive compared to keeping a high spec PC. Heck, this is even less cost that a Blu-Ray. Didnt you say this was your favourite game as well? Too bad you arent getting the full version.

f) Look you already made your purchase and I wont comment again. Im NOT going to say you made the wrong purchase. Its just you are pretty strong in dismissing 360, when clearly you know that it is the console of choice for 34% of the world market and there are clear reasons since you are a GTA4 fan. Look I dont know why im commenting, I guess im in a bad mood and you sound condescending. MS certainly have their faults, but its not a reason to take it out on their console.

Blu-ray doesn't cost much more in the US and if you don't buy a lot of movies a few extra dollars is well worth the cost (and many times extra features such as Lost Season 3 on blu-ray). You don't need to buy an extra controller for the 360? Oh... If you are fine with waiting for an inferior-quality HD download, then be my guest. I'd rather rent a copy from a store that has the extra content. IMHO, the only way you can play very game worth playing now is if you have no life and no job. That said, I'd much prefer the PC/PS3/Wii option because you'd miss far fewer games and most of the games that are on PC are better there. You can play Portal on PS3. But again, I'd prefer that on PC, just like Gears, Bioshock, and Mass Effect. Not sure how VG Chartz software sales is supposed to tell me which multiplayer games to get. There are plenty of people playing most of them. By the time the DLC for GTA comes out (likely 2009), Blu-rays will be much cheaper than the additional content I am willing to bet. Rock Star also has exclusive deals with Sony for future games. Microsoft does indeed have their faults, as all companies do, and the 360 has the RRoD which is maybe their biggest fault right now besides Vista bugs. I'd much rather pay a little more for a blu-ray player and a stable console and free online and cheaper add-ons (HDs) and the list goes on.

I don't mind people pushing games on me, especially if they can read my sig and see which ones I liked and played. That being said if I were to buy a PS3 game it would

a) have to be completely exclusive to the PS3 (unless it is GTA) that I can't eventually get on PC. Protptype will hit the PC as has Portal and COD4.

b)Something I really really want to play.

Part of my reasoning for this is that I seriously have a hard time coughing up $60 for a game. I won't pay more than $50 plus tax to buy a brand new game and I refuse to be nickle and dimed to death when I can buy the same damn game on the PC for $10 less.
