Sony tend to be in their own little world where Story triumphs gameplay in games. Any gameplay focused game in the PS library takes a back seat to your Days Gone's, your Horizons. They just release with little to no marketing, like Wipeout, or Nioh. Games I don't doubt will play way better than Days Gone yet we will see commercials and posters everywhere for DG and of course we got absolutely nothing for the other two.
Nintendo on the other hand gets by on gameplay. We all know the story in Mario games and any subtle changes to the plot line exists soley to justify new and interesting environments and settings. Mario Oddysey is going to score higher than any Sony game this gen on metacritic, and win a lot more awards than Horizon or DG could ever hope to, not to mention sell more than both of them.
So what is Sony's motivation to keep puhing this Story>Gameplay narrative? Will Mario Oddysey convince them to throw a full budget into something that isn't a third person cinematic action game?
