Forums - Gaming - Shenmue 3 anyone?

I am a huge fan of the series. I played them both on my Dreamcast. Heard they were really expensive to make though. Why oh why didnt they release the port on PS2 instead of Xbox? Completely stupid.

I forget which Shenmue, buit one of them cost 70 mil to make X_X

Shenmue was the most expensive game when it came out but it was surpassed recently by Too Human which costs $80-100 million

Too Human costs 80-100 mil? X_X Link please. I really don't understand what devs are burning money for.

Just type 'Too Human costs 80-100 million'.  You should find something about the budget

I went on GS forums and they said it was "according to Wikipedia." Did the company that make it actually say 80-100 mil?

I am not totally sure but that is not my fault.  Silicon Knights are secrective with their game

I knew it cost them a ridiculous amount, i forget 1 million pounds is nothing! but Shenmue was in the Guiness world records gamers edition for most expensive game untill Too Human if i remember correctly.

Am I wrong to think that Sega decided to put S2 on Xbox exclusive (as oppose to multi) totally killed the sales and pretty much killed the franchise?

It was on the DC as well. I played them, and the were great games.

Not sure we will ever see a 3rd however. Oh well, tons of great games out there as well!

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I'm not giving up on Shenmue 3. Yu Suzuki was really passionate about this, so as long as he's alive there is always a chance. I doubt it will happen this gen, but just look at what the current consoles(and the following next gen consoles) could offer a Shenmue game. The Wii's controls would compliment a Shenmue game greatly with the broad range of activities involved. The PS3 and 360 could make some gorgeous visuals, which is something Shenmue was known for at the time.

Besides, it's not like every Shenmue game has to cost a truckload just because the project originally did.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

What I find so disheartening is that Sega has basically replaced Shenmue with Yakuza. They could have easily used that same team to finish Shenmue but decided to start a new, similar franchise based off of the ideals Shenmue presented.
