Forums - Gaming - FFXIII: Not till May 2008?

Good news. I was worried I would have to late 2008 but early would be nice. If it comes out Early 08 for Us what about Japan? Late 2007? That would help kickstart the PS3.

I guess you did not read the other comments but this is the release in Japan not the US release.  There is no date or even an idea right now for release outside of Japan.  Based on previous titles it will be several months later so Christmas 08.

You people do know that it hasn't even been given a solid date in 2008, for all we know it could be released in Q4 2008 in Japan, Hell it could not come out till Q2 2009 for all we know. All their saying is that its official that we won't see it this fiscal year. Most of us knew it wasn't going to see the light of day till 2008, I'm surprised that so many people are surprised about this. I guess it was just wishful thinking that it would show up in 2007.

I wonder if this is an example (along with MGS4) of the few remaining PS3 3rd party exclusives being delayed simply to wait for a bigger install base. Of course the install base won't grow significantly without excellent games like that and excellent games like that won't be released until the install base grows significantly. The classic feedback loop of the console spiral of death.

Hum...my first double post.

Did you miss the Sony Gamers Day coverage?  The excellent games are coming.

It's the same situation for the Wii right now.  There are 2 excellent Gamecube...oops...Wii games out right now.  The big Wii games are coming later in the year.  Obviously, no one seems to care because of the novel control scheme, but the criticisms of the PS3 not having games is a bit hypocritical if you're a Wii fan.

Well I agree with that to some extent. The Wii only has 2 real great games right now (unless you are a Wii sports fan, which, as a partying college student I actually am), but it's also promising 3 HUGE tripple A games this year, wheras the PS3 is testing new franchises. These new 3rd party games (Heavenly Sword, Lair, etc.) could be good or they could not be. No one can deny they look pretty, but they certainly aren't guaranteed great. Obviously NO game is guaranteed great but as long as Nintendo maintains the base formula of the 3 said games (as is standard in the industry anymore. See: GoW2 and Halo 3) it would be pretty ridiculous for them to be bad. I guess the PS3 game I personally am looking forward to the most this year is Warhawk.

I don't think anyone is concerned with this holiday, since all three have killer stuff. i think it might benefit sony to have ff13 for next holiday when the calender isnt packed. now onto the real thing, when is versus coming out.

Come on windbane, don't make it so easy.  Calm down and think a little before replying, I said 3rd party (though I also meant huge budget but didn't say that).  Most of what I heard from gamers day were 1st or 2nd party (Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Lair, Warhawk, LBP, Ratchet).  Of course those games will come hell or high water, Sony is paying for them.  The rest, like the new Turok game!?, aren't as big budget wise and if they arne't on the 360 yet they will be soon.  I may be missing a game or 2, but except for a few major franchises (like FF and MGS) they won't be as big a deal either way.

I didn't claim any system has an awesome lineup of great games 6 months after launch, nor did I criticise the PS3 for not having great games now (apparently I'm a very confusing person since you also think I attacked Halo 3's graphics when I was defending the graphics).  The issue is why is the PS3's 3rd party games either being ported to the 360 or being given later and later release dates.  It would seem to indicate the PS3 has entered the spiral of death I mentioned is all.  Good you had to toss in a little Wii bashing again, just shows how hard for some people the next 4 years will be.
