Crysis is bad game to try and run most PC's can not even run it. How did it look on medium- average? You only get to see how good Crysis looks like if you have a good computer as specified by ssj12, that system could play Crysis on high settings and run smoothly.

I am surprised you do not have COD 4. I heard the PC version of COD 4 is  the best.

Anyway would two 9600GT cards be recommended?

Anyways, if you're building one yourself, here a spec that Crytek themselves recommended:
CPU - Intel Core2Duo E6750
GPU - GeForce 8800GT 512MB
Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 650i Socket 775
PSU - 600W ATX12V
RAM - 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit
HDD - SATA 250GB 7200RPM
DVD - 20x DVD±R Burner
Case - ATX Midi Tower Computer Case
OS - Microsoft Windows XP Home with SP2

Cost about $900.

CPU - Intel E8200 or E8400 - same price range as E6750 but faster and better

GPU  - 9600GT = better

OS - XP Professional - best Windows OS ever

PSU - 700w - trust me it will allow expansion

9600GT is NOT faster than 8800GT.  And a 700w PSU isnt really necessary either if the PSU is high quality.

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.

9600GTs in SLI (thats 2 video cards in 1 configuration) is very good.  Easily better than the single cards that cost the same.

Low cost one :

-E8400 (very O/C-able)
-9600GT (1GB version is not a luxuary, depends on your monitor and if you want keep the configuration for a long time)
-2GB ram (3GB is more confortable if on Vista)

Bit more expensive and powerful :

-QX9450 (very O/C-able)
-8800GTS O/C or 9800GTX (basically the same). GX2 is not worth unless you run your game in low resolution (lack of ram for SLi framebuffer in AFR, and so for AA+filtering)
-4GB ram

Rock on... Why not just upgrade what you have. You can get a 3ghz athlon 64 X2 that would fit in to your system for cheap - or save some cash and stick in a 2.5ghz X2. You can pick up a 9600gt for $110 with rebate on newegg, get another gig or two of ram for $40 and a Cpu for under a hundred and then you can play crysis on medium high. total cost like $250 up to $350 if you can't get a rebate or choose an 8800gt instead.

Tease.
