The series is slightly more connected than something like Final Fantasy (they take place on the same world), but outside of small event and location references, there's no overlap between the games.

Absolutely!

This is my first Persona experience and it's fantastic.

The game is LONG! I'm at 60 hours and I'm just a little over half way complete.
