Rail Shooters. I was sick of them on the Wii but now I wouldn't mind HD ports of them on the Switch.

You mean like Time Crisis? Those fall into light-gun games.

I think of those as the same thing honestly. Like the Resident Evil games, Dead Space, House of the Dead. etc.

2D shoot-'em-ups that are not danmaku-style like DonPachi and Touhou. I'm talking more old-school experiences like Gradius and R-Type. Konami actually announced Gradius 6 as a PS3 title way back in like 2006, but nothing came of it and it was eventually cancelled. The Wii did get Gradius Rebirth as a WiiWare title, but it was more of a remix of past Gradius/Nemesis levels. It's been eight years since then, and the franchise is effectively dead. And as for R-Type, Irem has abandoned it entirely, having withdrawn from the video game business a few years back, and when they did several R-Type games got delisted from various digital stores.

Ikaruga was bad ass.

I also want non-bullet hell shooters...focus on exploring/invading cool alien locales instead of zillions of polygons flying around the screen.

But when I hear rail shooter I instantly think Afterburner or Star Fox. And Resident Evil and Dead Space are at the core survival horror.

Yeah but they still follow the same mechanic. The game guides you and you shoot at stuff lol.

Burnout definitely.
Wipeout as well, vita port will have to do for now.
Baldur's gate dark alliance, 4 player on screen co-op please.
Prince of Persia 2008 style.
Dead space in VR.

I think he's talking about the Umbrella Chronicles games and Dead Space Extraction which were rail shooters/light gun games like House of the Dead.

As for the distinction between Light Gun and Rail Shooter, I think I associate Rail Shooter with games where you play in 3rd person like Star Fox and games in first person view I tend to think of as Light Gun games. No idea if I'm right or wrong though.

Signature goes here!

Clay-mation and Squiggle-vision!

Oh games...um, I'd like to see more rail shooters and 3D platformers with a collecting focus.
