Forums - Gaming - Why PS3 will benifit from GTA IV alot more than 360

lol mrstickball you're such a fanboy, you honestly think the GTA4 is going to move more consoles for the 360 than the PS3 despite the fact there are already 11.4 million 360s in America and only 4.5 million PS3's? hilarious.

also the PS2 didn't have nearly a 33% failure rate, plus you could easily fix it 90% of the time by cleaning the lense.

Or open it up after the warranty expired and fix it yourself in another 8% (Made up number, I admit) by following the instructions here: (disk read error)

It was rather well documented that PS2's had some issues, similar to what the PS1's had:

Despite the issues, the PS2 is still the top-selling console in history and will probably be for quite some time.

My reasoning is simple really. GTA has always been a Playstation brand and i guarntee you if you ask some random bloke on the street, "What platform is Grand Theft Auto on?" he will most likly reply "The playstation". So by now you are asking what the hell does this have to do with anything? Well think about it if 16 million people bought GTA SA on the PS2 where do you think the majority are going to go to? Exactly the PS3. Most of the people who bought GTA SA were casuauls/normal gamers meaning that they arnt really going to care about online and extra mission packs that the 360 is getting. Hell i wouldnt mind having the extra packs because i am a hardcore gamer, but im happy with my PS3. So anyway a  casual/normal gamer is going to go into a shop and see GTA IV on PS3 and 360 and thinks well the PS3 is £70 (I LIVE IN THE UK) more expensive but then again looks at the whole package and see PS3 offers way more than the 360. By this i mean

Casual/normal gamers who are getting a system for primarily one game will generally buy the cheapest console to play it.  They'd get a Wii version if there was one.   360 is more likely to gain from them all other things being equal.

*runs up to random person*

Me:"what console is GTA 4 on?"
Man:"The playstation"

*runs to store, ignores all the 360 signs, consoles, GTA 4 copies and buys a playstation*

Yea, I can definitly see that happening.

well that was a constructive post.

oh well, we're used it from you.

Well the GTA casual fanbase won't care what platform it's on and will just get the cheaper system. This effect will be offset by the casual idiots who won't even know it's on the 360, but since they're essentially Playstation fanboys a number of those will already have a PS3 anyway.

No i disagree, a casual is not an idiot, they would take other things into consideration, not just the price. Think about it right now. Like you said PS3 is more expensive but yet it outsells the 360 in every major region , GTA IV would just give it a bigger boost.

GTA is a very large franchise in Europe as well, and as far as Europe is concerned the Ps3 version will destroy the Xbox version of the game. So I think the two territories will balance eachother out.

people also associate "cheaper" as a bad thing.

Video games aren't stupid. The people that play them are.

hum mrstickball,

Japan is not the best example u should use.
Wii and PS3 and Xbox360 are selling a really different level. Wii is +50k, PS3 is +10k, while Xbox360 is +2k. This is the most BIASED market WW.
The PS3 has a higher userbase on Japan and really outsell the Xbox360 every weeks.

At the opposite, in NA, sales trends (if u want to use them) show that despite a really bigger userbase, the Xbox360 is not really outselling weekly the PS3 by a big marge. In fact, the PS3 has really increased in sales since last year, and the 2 consoles have a similar sales rate since the beginning of the year (Im not sure Xbox360 shortage below to past or not ...).

I conclude about the massive Xbox360 advertising : the first advertising that has been shown in US (comments somewhere in VGChartz) didn't mention the exclusive content of the Xbox360 and was not pushing one console over the other.

Time to Work !

I would agree that in Europe, the PS3 will recieve a bigger boost, but GTA, although VERY well selling in Europe, didn't sell nearly as many units in Europe as the US.

Total, US/NA sold about 2.5m more copies than Europe did. Also, don't forget that the 360 still has about 1,000,000 extra consoles sold in "others"..So the impact of the PS3 might not be as high as you'd expect (but nevertheless, pretty good).
