Forums - Gaming - Are People Shoving New Games Down Our Throat?

Back towards the launch of PS3 and 360 (Wii not so much), I started getting a sense that fanboys were shoving games down our throats that dont need them to. Now today with games like Horizen, Witcher 3, and recently Persona 5 it seems like everyone is saying "This is a masterpiece!! You must play now!" Hyping up a game that doesnt need it and arguably is better without it.. I enjoy Persona because they were games that recieved great reviews and had a humble, also niche, community. I never really experience this with Nintendo games, but Xbox and PS fans really want people to know they enjoy the game. Sure Zelda had some of this, but it also leads to discussion about the actual game, not just "This game is GOAT" "Yes Masterpiece", but instead keep the community.

I dont know if this makes any sense.

Maybe they want to be validated by getting more people to agree with them and support their favorite games with money.

or maybe they're just nice people who enjoyed a game a lot and want others to enjoy it too but some assholes out there think they're shoving games down their throat.

.- -... -.-. -..

I dont know about you, but thats always happened to me since back the day of snes-ps1one-n64 eras. People will always tell you the same "you have to play X,Y,Z game". I personally dont complaint, you get to know or pay attention to games you usually just ignore or take for granted. Thats how I got to know the Persona franchise actually, and Im glad I listened to the people telling me "omfg its just amazing". And it happens with videogames. Happens with music. Happens with movies. And its normal.

Either way all 3 games you mention are fantastic so its only normal people recommend them and reffer to them as goty material. If you dont like them or they dont appeal to your personal taste, well, just ignore them I guess?

It seems to be that the people are doing that to promote their preferred console of choice, to show that it's the best out there. For what reason? I'm not sure...

A fraction of it stems from people's desire to validate their purchasing decsion, by confronting others and telling them to buy and support what they do in roder to feel liek they had made a wise decision. The last thing a majority on this rock want is buyers remorse.

I do find it rather off putting though to see thread after thread for some titles on here, overhyping them to death, it actually puts me off wanting to buy into them at times, other times I end up grabbing the game at a much later date, when all the hype has died down and people see the game for what it is.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

You should add the new Zelda to the list aswell. I see it in all fan groups.

People see what they want to see.

There are some people out there proselytizing, sure, but I think they're in the minority. Most folks are just excited about a game and eager to talk about it.

Well, dioxygen is able to pass through my trachea, so I assume not.

I'd find that weird if that was the case. Someone buys something to enjoy it, there's no need to validate anything. What matters is that the person enjoys it.

I do feel the same when someone oversells their game. It gets annoying when someone tells me 'certain game' is the best for various reasons, I should buy the console, and that console is the best. I like just hearing 'Yeah, this game is great! If you like 'certain kind of genre', try it if you can" Hype has ended up in me disliking a game before.
