Forums - Gaming - No XBOX 720 until at least 2013 or drop out of gaming

In any case releasing in 2012/13 would be a mistake, they have a good system with the Xbox360 and they can capitalise on it by keeping it in service. Releasing sooner just means that they can be the second to add proper motion controls and keep that high end gamer market share that they got when they released the Xbox360.

Tease.

This thread is full of anti microsoft bull shit. Just look at this guy. ^

The point that WoW was making is that MS hasn't lost that 6 Billion entirely, that 6 Billion has bought them their image and their brand. If they were to drop out of the market they would give up 6 billion in equity that is stored in their games division's image and brand.

Its sort of like poker in the way that money you've bet is in the middle of the pot and the only way you lose your claim to that money is by folding or losing the hand. So with MS starting to show profitable FYs it would be silly for them to fold...especially since unlike poker this market is not a zero sum game.

@ justforeggs

I never said anything about the next xbox, all I did was try to teach you a little economics, which clearly didn't work.

Congratulations, you hate Microsoft - I don't care.  Sure, they have engaged/actively engage (take your pick) in questionable business practices, but that doesn't change the fact that the balance sheets are now showing profits for the gaming division and I was right, you were wrong.

 @sqrl

 Thanks for that poker analogy, I doubt I could think of a simpler, more concise way to explain that.

I really don't know what is going to happen to MS' gaming division, but just if they finally understood that a console lifecycle must be at least 5 years (Sony warned them before XBox 1's flop, unheard) to even only think of making a profit, at least one good thing happened and they'll won't damage again themselves, the other competitors and the users rushing new products and pushing the older into obsolescence too early. Obviously this is a necessary but not sufficient condition for success, but if I knew the others I'd apply for a job of executive at MS

well they could do a whole redesign to make it look as different from the 360( the ring of death machine) as possible. Also they could try launching with each console at no lose(like the wii) to avoid losing to much more money. They lost 125 $ a console at the beginning of the 360 i think

I'm thinking Microsoft is likely to make sure their next console sells at a profit from the start, just to avoid any headaches.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

 With a price tag of $300

By me:

they need to start making cheaper consoles for less. Their software is superb, but their hardware sales if what causes their loss of money. Nintendo makes cheap consoles yet they kick@ss. Microsoft needs to start taking notes from Nintendo.
