Forums - Politics - Voting age should be raised and tied to income and intelligence

This plan is

good 21 11.48%

not good 152 83.06%

maybe, at least we should... 10 5.46%

Total:183

No offense to the OP but wow, what a silly premise. You think this is the reason we have crappy politicians? You think it's the people and not the greedy, dishonest politicians themselves? Sad!

Normally I would be against this, but maybe if this actually happened the working class would get really pissed and overthrow the government. In that case, I'd like it. But if changing the rules doesn't cause revolution, then fuck no, I'm 100% against this.

That's terrible. Let only the highly educate and well off vote and lets see what happens with your representation. Expand public education and tackle poverty more effectively instead.

Age limit increase is a good idea, coming from a 21 year old 18 is too young.

25 should be the limit as that is when your brain is finished developing.

Income based is a bad idea and would create bias. Intelligence is a good idea, fully developed people should make the decision. If you're going to add that age limit I also think the voting age should be cut off at 75+ also.

Many great points. However, I don't think it's right to tell an 18 years old kid that he/she can go fight and die in a war but can't vote for who will send him there. That's some crazy thinking. 18 shouldn't be old enough to enter a battlefield but too young to make a choice.

Dishonest politicians continue to stay in power by getting the votes of the people that are easily controlled and manipulated.

You will see, once this system is in place, the politicians will do everything to please the proletariat, because the power to take them down will be vested in them.

The people aren't the problem man. Politicians have to lie to people. Telling the truth to people who only wanna hear what they wanna hear will get you nowhere. You think someone's income level is what leads them to believe their biggest problem is immigrants? Or that police are all bad? Also, the poor have to deal with what comes with these politician's decisions. When these politicians have no need to cater to the poor how will they treat them?

So basically alienate low-income working class citizens to a vastly greater degree? That'll work just fine, I mean it's not like those people retaliated recently against the out of touch status quo politicians or anything, right? I'm sure they'll love to be looked down upon even further by being told they're too stupid and poor to vote...

I wonder if OP luckily managed to fit into the proposed criteria...

Yeah, it seems like a case of superiority complex to me.

That's cute. You actually think voting determines the president.
