Fair enough. We will have to agree to disagree. :P
I'm happy that they make the distinction between an assumption and fact in their videos and write-ups, not all outlets do such a thing.

The thing that bothers me is when Digital Foundry makes system spec assumptions before the actual specs are known. Through misinformation they are causing damage to a system's image and turning potential customers away. They are helping no one with these practices and damaging their own reputation. But I guess they get a lot of clicks by doing it. |
I'm the opposite. I enjoy reading/hearing their opinions, but they do share allot of the same perspectives on tech as I do.

I think they can be damaging. To be honest, look at most of their recent videos. The seem Sony focused. I don't want to say pro Sony, but definitely Sony focused. The bad part about the Scorpio leak, is that it is not a leak. It is from a white sheet freely available on Microsoft's developer site that is from July 2016. Let me say that again, July 2016. Anybody that has watched the video should be able to clearly see they are guessing at everything, but one thing. The ESRAM being gone from Scorpio is the only 100% factual thing from the white sheet. I like it when they perform analysis, but the theory videos on Switch and Scorpio are damaging.

There is a reason why they had such a focus on Sony though.
They had the latest and greatest hardware on the market, so of course they will wish to test all the various facets so that us consumers know all the details and can thus align our purchasing decision to the findings.
As for power, we knew that the Xbox One "Pro" was never going to be a true 4k gaming machine the moment Microsoft announced their intentions.
If the hardware doesn't exist in the PC in an affordable form, it's not going to happen on a console... But peoples wildest expectations ran rampant. Microsoft's advertising did not help matters either.
As for the eSRAM, Microsoft's 4x L2 cache increase (I'm not sure if it's the GPU L2 cache or CPU, but CPU seems likely.) is likely to counter the removal of the eSRAM, so it's an interesting decision... And one that I said was likely a possible hardware decision that Microsoft may take last year.

And how many potential Switch consumers have said they are not buying the system now because of what Digital Foundry said. They came to a new conclusion based on assumptions made by Digital Foundry. |
I made my decision not to buy the Switch before we knew the hardware details. I'm not a fan of the form factor, the terrible price and inadequate hardware was just a nail in the coffin... I'm likely not alone on that assumption.

Technically the same is possible with the original Xbox One and Playstation 4, they have HDMI 1.4 which allows for 4k, 30hz.
And you are entirely correct. The more you push the visuals, the more you need to cut corners elsewhere, Resolution and/or framerate is usually one of the easiest cutbacks to make.
I am happy if a games resolution is higher than 1440P, but lower than 4k, the game still gets downsampled and still looks amazing on my 1440P panels.
