It's still dwarfed by console and mobile though. I don't see the point in these stats in that regard. It has so much growth ahead just to catch up.

China and Steam, they're really fueling it. Soon it'll be a mobile scenario where it'll be so big Sony and Nintendo can't ignore it. But I don't think we're anywhere near that happening. Too much pride and fear.

Sony is sorta trying to get into PC via psnow and DS4 for Windows. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo does anything tho.

Article is a bit misleading. It's about high end computee, not gaming hardware. Gamers are not the only one that use high end computer

Steam actually doesnt make that much money relative to consoles etc.
Also I believe the original report is counting all PC hardware, even if the hardware is not used for games

Well yea, Sony/MS has their yearly subsciption so of course it wouldn't. Doesn't mean its not making huge amounts of money tho... Specially with the trading card system and it's ever growing active userbase.
And yea, that's why it is placed into 3 segments which includes "entry level, mid and high end"

Steam most likely blows away all the console manufacturers in terms of profit from gaming. They pull in billions in revenue with very little overhead.

They do pull in billions, but how much is profit? A lot no doubt.

Avg price per game in 2016 $9.39
Console market is estimated at 30.8 billion, total PC at 31.9 billion, mobile 36.9 billion
https://cdn2.hubspot.net/hubfs/700740/Reports/Newzoo_Free_2016_Global_Games_Market_Report.pdf
Steam has a 10.9% market share of the total PC games market.
For comparison League of Legends made 1.6 billion alone in 2015
As expected, just like expected "still not as much as X platform" type comments.

The sad reality of all this is that Gabe still won't give us HL3, but that's basically become a myth by now.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
It only shows the growing wage gap in the world. Rich people buy more and more PCs while the 99% can't afford a $3000 PC.
