Kind of like how there isn't a good exclusive racer on PS4 yet.

While I do think Driveclub is a good game that just had a really bad start, there's no doubt it was a commercial failure and we likely won't ever see another one.

GT Sport is on the way and will likely be really good.

I honestly think the PS4 needs a new FPS. With Guerilla working on Horizon I think Sony needs to find another team to make a AAA exclusive shooter far more than they need another racing game.

Overall I think the point JRPGfan was making was that the Xbox One has a far narrower range of exclusives than the PS4 does and it hurts MS and a big part of that is that MS isn't willing to take the same financial hits and risks like Sony did with TLG (an almost certain financial loss for Sony but a game that was well recieved and his a big hit with fans of the older ICO games).

Or Microsoft could actually do what the fans want and make a game in a genre we want instead of catering to a niche crowd. How about a western RPG like I don't know ... FABLE FUCKIN 4. The way scalebound went, it should've never even been made because with half the time and effort you spent with scalebound you could've made a legit fable game that would've sold well. Jesus, thats my biggest problem. Fable legends shouldn't been a thing. Other than that, I am into 2017 lineup for Microsoft still, just want a dang western rpg that is great from them.

While MS definitely take some of the blame, let's not pretend that Platinum hasn't been overextending themselves lately. They're stretched thin and it's showing. They have released 7 games over the last four years, and they were working on this, Nier: Automata, and reportedly another PS4 game at the same time. It seems like they'll do anything for a paycheck at this point. Platinum bit off more than they can chew, and MS doesn't have the best reputation for taking risks (though you can say this about every publisher). I liked Scalebound and hate to see it go, but the writing was on the wall.

"Ah, here's what I was looking for

July 2015: "Those shits at MS...are they fucking with me?"

So, let's set a timeline HEAVY with speculation. Game was announced at E3 2014 without much notice. It skipped E3 2015, but showed up at Gamescom that year in August with an announcement of four-player co-op, which was shown off with a much rougher game in E3 2016's conference. The game was then cancelled soon after.

My guess is that, in July, Kamiya was told he had to rejigger the game into a four-player co-op thing. There were never any hints he wanted to make the game a Monster Hunter-like, but I am guessing people in charge of money were expecting him to do so. It gets announced, shown off, and the response is tepid. Changing tides at Microsoft, a desire to free up the UE4 team they put together to work with Kamiya, and being unhappy with the state of the game lead to it being cancelled.

If my guess is correct, that's really sad."

^ TL : DR:

MS did the same thing they did with Fable.

They changed what it was supposed to be, at some point into its developement, and that negativly effected the proccess.

Apparently MS where really hard to work with (rumors), and some of workers got burnt out and had too take off for a few weeks of rest.

They came back to work, and the project was scraped.

MS probably bares a big part of the burden of why this game ended up as it did.

Seems very plausible that MS forced PG to add 4 player co-op to the game, and the new demand didn't work.

One gaf insider said MS was more to blame and the story on this will be out http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=227950786&postcount=588

Sounds reasonable, given their rich lineage of being difficult pricks. That Kamiya tweet is gold.

Pretty much what I've been saying, Microsoft being Microsoft.

Holy fudge.... thats horrible.

Sounds like MS is to blame for this mess.

Yup, even removing all the videos, man, it makes sense, but it just seems so petty. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to never work with Microsoft, and it's not like their games would sell on Xbox anyways, it never made sense for Scalebound to be on Xbox, but Kamiya wanted to make the game happen.

So they clashed creatively. Why couldn't MS just let PG do their thing and trust their long history instead of meddling in the development process. It reminds me of the stories about what happened after they bought Rare, suits were constantly interfering with them. It's sad to see one of the best devs in the industry be treated like this.

Thank God they didn't sign Kojima.

It begs the question too.

What is the point of getting a japanese games company with a good track record, to make a jrpg, but then not give them the freedom to do so?

Even without MS decideing somewhere into developement they wanted to completly change the game (which would suck as a developer to be told),.... why? why not just get some western studio thats good at makeing co-op multiplayer games to make a monster hunter clone, if thats what you wanted?

It absolutely did feel like Microsoft was trying to force this game into Multiplayer.
Infact it feels like Microsoft is trying to almost exclusively into Multiplayer games.

I think Sea of thieves would have been fantastic as a single player game.

Fable legends, scalebound, crackdown, sea of theives.

= all heavily focused on multiplayer.

Has microsoft given up on single player games? and those elements in games?

Actually, Microsoft should just buy out Besetheda games and own the biggest rpg franchises on the market if they want the rpg fanbase.

TES6 and the fallout franchise exclusive to Xbox One would be massive.

That would cause such extraordinary rage, Bethesda would rather collectively commit suicide than do that.  Cause that would also shackle them to freaking Windows Universal Platform which would be disastrous for their very large PC market.  And I doubt the Xbox One line or Xbox consoles will still be a thing by the time TES 6 is around :P
