Forums - Gaming - If you're a Doctor Who fan, you owe it to yourself to play LEGO Dimensions.

During the Holiday break, I had some time to sample most of the PS4 games I had already bought for my new PS4 Pro.  I also rebought LEGO Dimensions for the PS4 because I was attracted to the PS4 exclusive Supergirl LEGO mini-fig.  Now, I've played a couple of stages on the PS3, but I've restared my game on the PS4, and the best I've encountered so far is the Doctor Who stage.  If you're a Doctor Who fan, you've got to check this out.

Here in the States, we're starving for a good Doctor Who video game.  I heard that the Wii Doctor Who releases were horrible renditions and were better off staying on that side of the Atlantic.  But having played LEGO Dimensions gave a very good taste of what a good Doctor Who game could have been.  You control Batman, WildStyle, and Gandalf while all three meet the 12th Doctor voiced by Peter Capaldi himself.  It was great seeing the Doctor and the TARDIS interior in LEGO form.  It even has the same charm as a Doctor Who episode when interacting with the Doctor.  Clara also made an apperance as you have to rescue her.  During the gameplay part of the stage, you're battling Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and of course the Daleks.  Of all three villians, the Weeping Angels were utilized most effectively when trying to solve puzzles while the lights flicker off and back on.  You Doctor Who fans know what I'm talking about.

I don't think LEGO imensions itself is worth the purchase just to experience the Doctor Who stage, but it's a solid incentive to help justify the cost if not already.  Then, there is the open Doctor Who world to explore if you have one of the Doctor Who mini-figs which gives you access to that world.  There is also the Level Pack in which the storyline is Doctor Who specific.  I'm still on the main LEGO Dimensions campaign.  So I've yet to explore anything else.

I would, but I hate the idea of having to buy physical toys just to play content in a game. If they ever release a version of Lego Dimensions where you can buy everything digitally (even if it`s the same price, or even more as long as not too much more) then I`d get that though.

This is sort of true about the core game, but only for the core game.  You can finish the main storyline from start to finish with just the three main characters (the physical ones that come as mini-figs).  You can also access "hidden" areas by "renting" other chracters with in-game currency to access those areas.  You can employ Wonder Woman's strength to break through certain areas, use Scooby Doo's tracking ability to find hidden items, or one of the Ninjago ninjas' spining abilities to open certain switches.  You have these characters for 30 seconds max which is plenty of time to "get the job done."  But to access open worlds like the Jurassic Park or the DC world, you need to buy a physical mini-fig of a character from that world for instance.  They are not worth the retail price, but I always wait for a sale which makes it much more financially feasable.  And it's like buying DLC, but you also get something physical with it that you can collect and spend a little time building.

Funny, I did the same thing. I got the starter pack on Wii U when Dimensions first came out but was never able to do everything because all the figures weren't out yet. So by the time all year one figures were all out I had a PS4 and picked up a used copy of the PS4 version. The Wii U pad works fine on the Sony system. I replayed the entire game including all the side stuff and got the platinum trophy. When I was done I traded all the minifigs to a friend for a bunch of PS4 games. I just play the toys free Lego games now.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

That`s a downside for me though

Why would this be?  Please explain?  Are you a simple man of little clutter?

Sounds good, but not paying that much for it.

I'd love a Lego Doctor Who series, could do a game for every three doctors highlighting best moments.

Doctor Who 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12

Actually, I think that is somewhat featured in the Doctor Who open world.  I recall watching parts of a YouTube vid which showed key parts of the series such as the Tomb of the Cybermen from the Troughton era.
