Forums - Microsoft - Realtime Worlds (Crackdown) gets $50m in Funding

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=18050 From Gamasutra:

Scotland-based developer Realtime Worlds (Crackdown) has reportedly raised $50 million in its third funding round led by Maverick Capital. This announcement follows the $31 million in funding it received from U.S. venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 2006. Consumer tech news site TechCrunch cites a source with "knowledge of the deal," adding that Montgomery & Co, the dealmakers who represented Club Penguin in its $700 million sale to Disney, are likely also advisors on this deal. Realtime Worlds was founded by CEO and creative director David Jones, who created the Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings games franchises at DMA Design, now renamed as Rockstar North. In addition to its critically acclaimed Xbox 360 title Crackdown, which took the Best Debut award at the most recent Game Developers Choice Awards, the company is currently working with Korea's Webzen on the modern day cops and robbers MMO APB, which he discussed at length at this year's GDC.
I thought this was interesting Xbox 360-important news. Could this funding be for a title after APB launches? Maybe Crackdown 2?

Great!! Perhaps we'll see Blood Money 2!!

EMULATION is the past.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Some big $ there, hope they put them to good use. Crackdown 2 maybe.

Maybe they'll add a lot more things to do if they're putting money into a Crackdown 2. I mean come on, after one kingpin, the game was pretty much the same thing copy and paste. It gets a little more interesting later on when you (and the enemy) have access to the powerful rocket and grenade launchers, but you're still just fighting like 200 people in an area.

It was also weird how the second you beat the last boss, every enemy was gone so you really had no use for weapons or anything else anymore, aside from shooting out tires of speeding cars and then watched them flip (heh heh). I haven't seen the DLC though because our disk cracked in the center (Crackdown cracked..... I'm a joker), but I don't think it would have made the game interesting for much longer than it already was.

Illegal -

If you haven't tried the DLC, most of your points are invalid.

I wouldn't expect a crackdown 2 in a past interview MS stated something along the lines of letting that ip "die."

A GTA/ crackdown type game is likely.

MS didnt mention letting it die, they mentioned how realtime worlds wasnt doing it.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

Crackdown wasn't really a good game...

That being said, Bungie is a competent developer, and I fully expect The next crackdown to be full of win.

Well, I don't really have a choice in what I was saying considering the disk is destroyed and all.

Isn't the big one called 'Keys to the city' and you can spawn stuff in and such?

I heard crackdown 2 was getting made, just not by realtime worlds.
