Scotland-based Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds has raised $50 million in a third round of financing.

The financing was led by Maverick Capital, reports TechCrunch, while Montgomery & Co, which represented Club Penguin in its $700 million sale to Disney in August 2007, acted as deal advisors. The developer previously raised almost $33 million from CIM Fund and New Enterprise Associates.

Founded in 2002 by David Jones of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings fame, Realtime Worlds employs around 185 staff at its Dundee, Scotland headquarters and an additional 40 at its Seoul, South Korea, and Colorado, US offices. It was previously responsible for the BAFTA award-winning Xbox 360 game Crackdown (pictured) and is currently developing All Points Bulletin, an original MMOG, in partnership with Webzen of Korea.

Next-Gen contacted Realtime Worlds but the company was unwilling to comment on the report. A spokesperson said only that the company would be making some announcements in due course.
