I'm sorry, but is the PS4 Pro the PS5 all of a sudden? Or is it a mid-gen upgrade that is not necessary? And a 15%-20% increase on last years Q4 shipments of 8.4M consoles would be great. That alone would put the PS4 at 57M-57.5M at the end of Dec. Sony and shareholders would be VERY happy. Interesting how that is your pessimistic estimate.
Also, I'm sure you are going to hold the Scorpio to those same standards? And not be in threads making excuses for its "lackluster sales?"

I gave my reasons in other posts and threads:
1- New hardware always sells a lot. Sony was aiming for the iPhone model.
2- PS4 is down YoY in NA for the last 3 or 4 months. I thought it was because the public was waiting for the Pro.
3- I expected Sony to be more agressive with the marketing.
4- I ignored the appeal of the games blundle with the original and slim PS4. Right now, if you don´t have a PS4 the slim is a better deal.
You may be right, the Pro is not not a PS5 and I was wrong to use the PS4/XO sales performance. The yoy increase was for NA, since Sony is not doing a WW launch for the Pro, by the and of the quarter it could be flat.
And yes, the Scorpio will hold an even more hard standard.

1. Sony is not aiming for the iPhone model. Otherwise they would be calling this a PS5 and releasing new HW every year. The difference is Sony is focusing on NOT splitting the base or telling people they have to need to upgrade. They have every intention of launching a PS5. Ane really, we're not even sure this is going to be a permenant thing. This really was brought about by the adoption of 4K TVs and the quick advancement in cheap, yet powerful GPUs that support VR. Next gen, 4K will be the standard (we'll have to see how VR turns out) and we might not see the advancement, after a ~9-10 Tflop PS5, that requires a PS5.5. Or maybe gamers will think that it's enough power.
2. And how's it doing overall this year? It's not really surprising it would be down these past months with the looming announcement and pre-orders opening up for the Pro. And like Swordmasterman stated, at least half of sales for the year happen in the last couple of months, so it's a little early to be concerned. Especially if the early months + Nov and Dec end up being up YOY.
3. I haven't really been watching much TV, so I can't really say how aggressive they have been or haven't been. But, I'll take your word for it and will say they probably could be more aggressive.
4. Slim is the better deal if saving money is important for someone, especially with the $249 Black Friday bundles coming up. The Pro is by far the better deal if saving money isn't all that important. It's only $100 more than the normal price and you will be playing all of the future titles at much higher resolutions, with better textures/effects and slightly better framerates.
What countries is the Pro not launching in? I was under the impression it was a WW launch this year. And I'll make sure you stick with those higher standards for the Scorpio. ![](http://www.vgchartz.com/includes/wink.gif)
