Companies love doing it because its a massive cash grab and hype machine and gives a good reason to resell old games. Just like we are seeing this gen. If there is going to be another gen leap than ill pass it if it offers backwards compatibility. I dont want to rebuy my games again or keep multiple comsoles pluged in. |
I can gaurantee you, companies hate new gens more than any gamer could ever hate them.
And the bolded part of your post is just totally wrong. Especially when you consider the marketting budget associated with launching new hardware and the fact that most of that hardware is sold at a loss. And the whole resell old games thing? that ony really became a thing last gen. There have been tons of gens before that that still saw clear cut hardware generations.
And lastly, if the whole iterational generations thing becomes a thing.... then by the time (for instance) the PS5 comes along games released won't be for it per say and just called Playstation games with support for the PS4/PS4pro and PS5.It doesn't or wouldn't matter if you kept your old console that can still play those games because sony makes mre from you buying one game than they do from you buying a console. But when that console breaks, there would be a more powerful version of that hardware waiting for you to pick up.
