It's more environmental friendly. Possibly 99% of all PS4's bought are laid down flat mean there are millions of wasted plastic not being used but being manufactured for no reason.

The only stand I found that actually made sense to include for a console was for the Wii U's gamepad.

I'd agree with you, if they didn't sell the stands as seperate things to buy. I suppose they're not using up as much plastic, though at the expense of an alternate convenience to consumers.

I suppose it was fine at the time, and the PS3 looks suited to be layed side ways, but after stands became a standard with some consoles, I just don't find it acceptable anymore.
