A "next-gen" Mortal Kombat was announced back in September of 2006 but hasn't been heard from since. That looks like it is about to change. Noob.com, a website registered to Ed Boon and Midway Games, has recently updated with a countdown clock. Ed Boon is the creative director of the Mortal Kombat team.
The countdown ends in just under 20 days and promises answers when it runs out. It just so happens that Midway's Gamers Day event is April 17, roughly 20 days from now. We're guessing that is not a coincidence.
Along with the counter, the page features dim pictures of a man's eyes and four exotic animals. Underneath the pictures are two number strings. If you assign them to letters of the alphabet, it reads "Free Klose."
Previously while talking on Mortal Kombat, Boon promised to, ".. start new, with a bunch of brand new characters, a whole new fighting system, a new presentation with the new graphics for the new consoles, as well as a new control scheme to take advantage of some of the new technology available."
IGN has contacted Midway with a request for more details on this teaser site and is awaiting a response.

I have always like Mortal Kombat, i.e. reason ESRB exists. I thought it went stale after MK3. Can't wait to see the next iteration or new iteration.
Also, noticed the site, noob.com, is being relocated and is currently down. :(
