Forums - Sony - Will The PS4Pro Help Sell The Scorpio?

I've been thinking about this and it makes sense to me. The PS4Pro launches this November so there's going to be a period of around a year before the Scorpio launches. In the mean time PS4Pro owners are going to be talking about 4K gaming, showing 4K gaming, posting 4K screenshots and posting 4K articles on forums like this. Not only that but you'll have Youtube channels and Twitch channels, as well as sites, showing and talking about 4K. This might frustrate a few XB1 owners who feel they're 'missing out' but ultimately It will promote 4K gaming and so make the Scorpio a more saught after console when it finally releases next Christmas.

Sony often say that a rising tide lifts all boats and perhaps they're right. What do you think?

I think the Scorpio will have a nice boost since developers are making games for the PS4P right now and these games should run in at least those settings on the Scorpio.

People are also going to buy 4k Televisions and hardware and when Microsoft's E3 hits next year they deffenitely have a chance to show that their console just offers more value to people who decided to switch to a new television. If they can achieve that crisp 4k with more Memory (necessary) and a better processor along with the 6Tflops, they will have my money :)

The PS4P seems to be a - in the middle - console, its quite a lot better then the PS4 but quite a lot weaker then the (possible) scorpio, for me its not worth upgrading my current PS4 but for new buyers, this is amazing.

Nope. Until the Scorpio proves all its claims, the Pro has all the time in the world to gain momentum, which is going to be key for marketshare.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

when is the sorpio coming out?

Yes it will.

Xbox One users will see stuff from the PS4 Pro and be like "I want that".
And will upgrade to a scorpio when that releases.

But on the other hand, it might also hurt it.

Why? because 1 year is along time to wait, this might convert some xbox users meantime.

Even then the price differnce, might make consumers pick the cheaper option.

Yup, I agree.

The scorpio has to come in at no higher than $399 though. Cause you just know that by its launch next year the PS4/PS4pro will cost $200-250/$300-$350 respectively.

It's not really about which is best though, it's about promotion of 4K. It's going to be 4K this and 4K that. Every other article is going to be about 4K on the PS4Pro. Doesn't it follow then that over a period of about a year or so, those who never even knew about 4K will likely fully understand it by the time the Scorpio releases? I think both camps can benefit from Sony's move to 4K.

A lot weaker? Just out of curiosity, do you think the XB1 is a lot weaker than the PS4?

And more memory isnt what is important. More memory bandwidth is.

Oh, yeah, it can't afford to be more than $100 more but from a promotions perspective it's actually good for both camps, in my opinion.

If MS can bring the Scorpio out at $399 then yes it has the chance to eat PS4 Pro's lunch.
It seems the sweet spot for consoles this gen is the $399 mark. I think MS should do this price even if it means selling at a loss, and they should release it earlier than the holiday timeframe.

August-September window would be better. I went into my college's bookstore in the tech section and saw quite a few people buying Xbox 1's and PS4's in there. That extra money people get with grants and loans make people do stupid crap.

This thing is going to need positive word of mouth from early adopters, and reviewers to build that hype up as a must buy holiday gift. It needs all these sites online to do the head to head comparison to the PS4 pro showing people that it is a safe buy in terms of the new Xbox ecosystem (including VR) and how it stacks up to the competition.
