Not the same thing. Piracy isn't equal to theft. If you couldn't afford a BMW and knew you could get one for free via some sort of duplication ray or something... woud you do it?
Most people likely would. The question is... would it really hurt the BMW company? After all you weren't going to buy the BMW anyway. You couldn't afford it.
While I also don't condone piracy, if you look at how the economy works you would realize that copyright actually doesn't hurt companies because most people who wouldn't buy it anyway, and piracy also has some minor positve effects.
