Perhaps I was.  When I was a kid, I would fall for literary characters like Anne of Green Gables, Menolly from Dragonsong, or Alia from Dune.  Really, though, I thought she was atypical as a heroine, destined to take a backseat to Aerith, who had "main girl" written all over her, so it made me happy that she wasn't the cliched childhood friend doomed to an unrequited love.  I also think it was a brilliant move that Tifa, the shy one, was given a sexy look, while Aerith, the confident one, was given a demure appearance.
