Forums - Gaming - Games that could have beneffited by being shorter

Skyward Sword definitely had some unnecessary padding at the end to get access to the final dungeon. I'm sure everybody remembers diving for Tadtones. That damn Water Dragon was such a b*tch.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Wasn't that part already shortened on the remaster though? I've never played the original version, but the triforce quest didn't feel long... just boring =P

Anyways, Wind Waker is a really short game imo, if anything it should've been longer (More dungeons specifically).

I've beaten the original version not so much time ago, a lot enjoyed the story, dungeons and gameplay itself with sea travelling, but this part.. is just not needed, even with fast travell

Almost every single RPG.

This is more of a "i wonder" reply than "[x] was too long", but Uncharted 4. I was genuinely surprised by how long the game was (i went in expecting another 8 - 9 hour adventure, and ended up clocking in past 14 hours), and i can't help but wonder what the game would have looked like if they'd focused the same amount of time and money at something more in line with the length of UC2 and 3. I enjoyed the longer length (hoho), i feel like the end result had much better pacing as a result, but you have to wonder.

Nier. I genuinely think its a seriously underrated game and one I like a lot, but it also felt like a 20-25 hour game stretched to 40 hours for no good reason.

I don't think Nier should have been shorter, I think endings shouldn't have been locked for no reason. Having to replay the game three times to get all endings was a weird design choice, one that affected the game negatively.

Most 3D Zeldas.
Can we get the opposite of this thread? Pikmin 3 would have been so much better if it had just one tiny extra region, or just a tiny bit longer.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I know this will a bit burn, but
Wind Waker
React, then read this: is there any necessity to travel the whole sea to collect the triforce shard's parts charts, then get it to Tingle to know that decrypthing costs 3k+ and go travelling again to getting all chart's treasures to get all that gold, then getting decrypthed and travel the whole sea again. Mind that there are 8 of this parts and each needs to be travelled to and made a little quest, btw did I mentioned that there is no story there at all, this makes that boring as f

I think Wind Waker's expansive ocean and slow sailing in some respects make the game more believable. If you could sail across the whole ocean in the game in 5 minutes it certainly wouldn't really give much scale or scope to the believability of the world

most 3D Zeldas? Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask- none are overly long. One could argue that Majora's Mask is somewhat overly challenging for a casual gamer with all of the time traveling and time limits... but the other two aren't that long really at all

haven't thoroughly played Skyward Sword so can't really speak on that one

Skyward Sword! The last section of the game (collecting musical notes) was just boring, useless and unnecessary! It felt like a chore... the game would be better without it.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Bravely Default. There's a whole third of the game that accomplishes nothing, progresses the story in no way, and worst of all rewards you with NOTHING. There's this great WHAM moment and then the story just stops. All the characters stop thinking, the whole section is just a vast narrative void. It's like they had a really great 25 to 30 hour RPG but decided they need to shove in ten extra hours worth of absolute nothingness just to pad the game out so they can get into the big boys' club.
