Forums - General - Why Don't You Participate In Mega Threads?

For me it's the opposite. Not that active on here anymore and if it wasn't for the mega thread (Xbox), I wouldn't be on here. I'm not going into detail about my many problems with the site and inconsistencies, but the mega threads are good IMO.

Around the Network

i have been pretty active in the Manga thread this past week due to the big Bleach news.

Yeah I don't really understand why people don't join a mega thread and be part of a more precise community. Those are usually the ones I care about the most around here personally.

It goes against my religion.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Time really

The problem i have with them is between looking one day and looking the next there could be 200-300 new posts in it.

I do read them and skim some areas though.

Around the Network

I'm not much of a writer, more of a reader, but my main issue with mega threads is the content, the original poster updates the tittle and never updates the first post with links to the post that content is introduced. Sometimes it take more than half a hour to find the post and when we read it is lacking in info which is infuriating. Also, there is also so much offtopic floating around that it takes 3 pages to read 2 opinions on the matter. Only mega thread i visit is the Trophy league one.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

They are too big for me! Thats what she said

But yea, generally, I just comment once per thread and then I am donez unless someone quotes me.

They aren't specific, and they are overwhelmingly large. There isn't a way to "fix" how general they are.

When a thread about Katanagatari is bumped, I can make a pretty good guess at what is being talked abut there. When an anime mega thread is bumped, there are thousands of potential anime shows, movies, directors, news, etc that could be being talked about.

Whatever I might want to talk about could easily get lost in that because when I post about Katanagatari there, Katanagatari fans there have no way of knowing that Katanagatari was brought up and people who don't care about the show have no way of knowing that something they don't care about bumped the thread. Instead, I could just make a Katanagatari thread so that me and the audience both know what kinds of discussions will transpire with no ambiguity.

1. There are lots of posts which can be intimidating and make it hard to join conversation.

2. Typically a person who hasn't been in the thread will be passed over(as these threads can be very cliquey)

3. Often members of these threads are very passionate and will angrily attack anyone who doesn't agree with their favorite thing.

4. Because there are so many posts, there's often lots of parroting.

I completely agree that the mega threads are a good idea, mainly the 3 nation threads. Xbox Empire for example did more for Xbox fans on this site that its ever gonna get credit for. But this thread was really created to find out why people for example Xbox fans never entered the mega thread and ways mega threads can be more welcoming to outsiders.

Well I'm guessing some people think they are too chatty. Which sometimes XBE got that way, and it's easy to lose your post in a big thread. Others like to fight it outside the mega threads. Idk...
