Forums - Sony - PlayStation Japan President talks about PS4 recovery and explains how the console is marketed as a toy for adults

Pretty obvious, really. I remember a couple of years ago when they had a good sized Vita section in the E3 conference and the thread here was full of "no one cares, show us more PS4 stuff" comments. Now that they don't have one, it's "I can't believe they didn't show any Vita games". Kind of funny.

The Vita will get attention during conferences in markets that support it.

It's not really all that funny because what your doing is describing two different groups of people and combining them into one group and pretending it's the same people. The people who wanted more PS4 stuff said it when they felt they weren't getting it then a comeptlely different group of people wanted more Vita stuff when they didn't get enough.

It's funny to me because I visit a vairety of forums based on different subjects and I always see poeple doing this kind of stuff.

Of course I combined it into one group.  It's the "people who are watching E3" group.  As for me saying that it's the same people saying both, please point out where I said that?  Go ahead.  I never said that, so what's funny is going to be how you deal with your own assumption.

As for my point, it's that they can't win in the court of public opinion with this situation.

A very good recovery indeed. I remember all the doom and gloom over the Ps4 sales in Japan 2014 when the baseline was 5k in the slower months.

2015 seen a 100% increase to 10k a week in the slower months and 2016 has seen another 100% increase to 20k a week in the slower months.

It's tracking close to the ps3 which at this stage last gen had blown them a shit load of money in Japan. Profitability wise the improvement to this gen is off the charts. And importantly a nice user base is growing that will support another healthy gen for PlayStation in Japan.

What is happening here lol.

I don't strongly disagree, but to suggest the Japan console market is in a good place and healthy for PlayStation is a bit of a stretch.

They haven't done very well at all. Especially with zero competition.

Success is relative... so when measuring in the context they see they are improving.

This more in line with "you can't please all" than calling other hypocrites from complaining about two opposite things just for the sake of complaining.

Well, as ZhugeEx said, its quite sad that Sony considers the current number as a big success.I mean, as the market in Japan stands now, it is a decent number, but it is a "farcry" from what it used to be and also compared to the other markets.

Compared to what it was the market isn't in a good condition but compared with other markets the Japan's console market  as a country only lose to the USA but is well ahead of other markets.

I mean the main markets(US, Europe and Japan).Japan is the worst one of the three. And for one that was the biggest(depending on the year of course) its sad to see the state. If you were to compare to other countries then sure, it is good, but only because games didnt sell that "well" to begin withHoping that it improves and japaneses comes back to the dedicated gaming market.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So you want to compare a whole continent with a country ? I think that Japan was aways behind USA in gaming revenue and they still the second biggest country for the console market. Last time I checked Germany (One of the biggest for console gaming) was 3.5-4 Billions US$ with Mobile + PC + Console while Japan was 3+ Billions with just console.

Fair enough.I guess its just dissapointing for me to see Japan not doing as good as it did in the past, especially when I accompany the COMG and see games like FF15 and many other games not performing(thus far) as it should be.

Do you believe the condition of the Japanese console market is due to smart phones?

What is the "COMG" ?'
